How to Use Subtle Text-based Hypnosis to Get Visitors to Click (and Buy!) Your Amazon Affiliate Products

By Will James

First of all, this hub is all about how to get visitors to your hub or website to click on your Amazon affiliate links and then purchase whatever they went to go look at. That is all this hub is about.

Many marketers will use the technique of putting everything "out on the deck" for their visitor: "Hi! My name is Will James and if you buy that book over there, I will make money! But not only that, you will make money too! When you apply what the book tells you to do! Because I read it and have applied it... and now I'm making money off of you going over there, clicking it, and buying it from Amazon!"

You get the point... So anyway I thought I would delve into what I like to call subtle visitor manipulation, also known as the Cialdini Influence. On the Internet, it works better than the out-and-out used car salesman technique. Users on the Internet are overly cautious. I don't know about you, but I will check an offer out at least a couple times before I actually pull the trigger and buy -- even if it hardly costs anything.

In order to have an extraordinary conversion rate with Amazon affiliates, you have to get into the Visitor's head. You have to figure out The Secret of what exactly is going through his or her mind at the exact time that they're on your hub. Or else you have to find someone who already knows how non-buyers think. If you find someone who understands non-buyers, then they can divulge to you the secret. As soon as you get this, you will be able to convert at least three times as many people into Yes buyers.

All you have to do is turn enough of their no's into Yes's and you will have heroically converted them into a buyer.

People on the Internet are full of no's. People in the supermarket? They're full of yes's. They wouldn't be in the supermarket if they didn't already have a "list" of yes's coursing through their modies. Yes, yes, yes!

The bottom line of subtly manipulating your visitors into buying from your Amazon affiliate links is that you have to have a system that you can apply. If you have no system you are just going to be throwing up experiment after experiment... Persuading people to do things is not an art! It is a science. There has already been tons of scientific research into how to influence people to do what you want them to do. Study it and apply it. You will immediately be leagues ahead of all the amateurs flailing around blindly on Hubpages or anywhere else on the Internet.

Why ignore a century's worth of scientific data in an effort to rediscover what has already been discovered?

The truth about what works in influencing people to buy has already been written about in a hundred books by psychology professors and successful salesmen. They have the answers you need: Study them and apply them. And for God's sake act quickly and boldly!

This is the book I use to make money online:

Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion (Collins Business Essentials) Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion (Collins Business Essentials)
Price: $9.29
List Price: $17.99

Text based persuasion is great, but with technology jumping ahead of us all the time, I wonder how long it will be before the whole Internet is crawling with subliminal messages - or... maybe it already is! Yoiks!

Great point Jazzuboo. The sad fact is most people are too mentally lazy to cash in on the amazing gold rush opportunity that is the Internet at this point in time.

That's why I made this hub to get the word out there about "Persuasion". For those who have ears to hear...

Good point! thanks I agree with jazzuboo that we are probably exposed to many subliminal message all the time on the screen. After I have a few things I wonder why I bought them!

I think we would be absolutely amazed at how much subliminal messaging is going on. I remember a study done several years ago in a movie theater. Just before a break in the action they would inject the smell of buttered popcorn into the air system. Popcorn sales skyrocketed.

I really like the Influence book also. In fact, I think I will go reread it.

interesting concept. when I was getting my master's in counseling we learned about setting up "yes" loops - works very well for talking down suicidal patients...it'd be interesting to see how that can apply to marketing as I'm sure someone's thought about it given the information here in your hub!

@Temperance Hmm I'll have to look into "Yes" Loops... and then make another Hub about it!

@agrande If that worked so well, I wonder why movie theaters don't make it part of their policy in order to get more popcorn conversion.

Must click link...must click link...buy...Buy...BUY!

Seriously, it's interesting stuff. I started out as a psych major way back when because I really wonder what makes people do what they do sometimes.

@Reed Very funny :-P Did you read "Influence"? The author is a pretty well-regarded psych professor if I'm not mistaken. The more I look into what makes people tick, the more I think we're nothing but robots... DNA + conditioning. What else is there? A soul? Umm, show it to me. I'll admit there's consciousness, witnessing the whole event. And what is the event made out of? Consciousness itself! Now I'm getting off topic and straying into Advaita.

i stopped trying to get into the heads of people after I stopped teaching, I wonder if it will be easier with adults than middle school students. God I hope so. I will definitely take this into account as I do my hubs and figure ou all the information with the Keyword Academy.

Yes I read Cialdini book as well a while back. I thought it was okay. Some of it I already knew, some insights. Anyway, good hub - thanks.
