How to Witness to Others About God
56I sat down to write this article. It was going to be about guardian angels. I was about halfway through it when I received a flurry of email from people who had read the story, God Would Never Destroy the Faith of a Child. Three of the e-mails were from teens. Now, you have to understand, I was an 8th grade teacher and teens are near and dear to my heart. Not only did I enjoy teaching them, I also realize what a difficult road they often encounter in today's crazy world. Because of these emails and the importance of this message, I decided to change my topic and discuss witnessing.
As I read the letters from them, it occurred to me much more clearly than even before how Satan can work to confuse them and keep them from the Word of God. In fact, a large portion of another page I have out there covers this very topic. If you don't remember it, click here to read it.
One young lady wrote to me and told me of some difficulty and said the following, "Lately it has been very hard for me to trust in God. I have been having many doubts." Notice that she is having doubts and remember that article mentioned just avbove.. Do you see the handprint of Satan there? I do.
I wrote back to her and gave her some advice that I won't go into here, but then I asked her to do something for me. You see, she told me more, She said, "something amazing just happened that has strengthened my faith. See, I was bored, so I looked up "funny Christian stories" on Google. I picked a story from the site's list, and an ad appeared. It was a link to your story. I read the story, and now I realize that God made me do that. I was doing something pointless on the internet, and I happened to come across your story. Thank you so much for sharing that story." I asked her to send the link to the story to her friends. If it could have an effect on her, then it might reach another one, which could reach another one, and so forth. If we can reach one soul for Christ, then isn't it worth it to send a link to a story?
I told the young lady that I know how difficult witnessing to peers can be, but that by sending the link to this story, she was witnessing to her friends in a non-threatening way. I believe this story and my ministry has an effect on people that many other Christian sites simply do not have. The story is a real
life, non-threatening, "unpreachy" way of opening a dialogue to the Word of God. So many kids, as well as adults, are turned off by what they perceive as "preachy, you better get your life together or go to hell" messages. This ministry has reached many of those very kids.
Romans 10:13-15 tells us that others cannot hear the Word unless other Christians tell them. "For every one who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved. But how are men to call upon him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher? And how can men preach unless they are sent? As it is written, 'How beautiful are the feet of those who preach good news!" You don't have to be a preacher. You don't have to be an in-your-face kind of witness. Try being subtle. Send the link to the story. It might open up a dialogue with the person you send it to. You might be the tool God uses after they read it. I might be the one He chooses. It is His decision. We are merely trying to spread the Word. All the glory goes to God.
If you don't know how to send a link, I will explain it here:
Just open "file" and go down to "send" and the click on "send link by e-mail". Your email program will come up and the link will already be attached. Just enter the address, or addresses, of the people you want to send it to. Make sure to send a message that you thought they might like to read this amazing story, or something similar to that. Let God do the rest.
