SUBJECT: Article Query

"Going Braided"

Background:

We the authors have found numerous advantages of using braided fishing line as opposed to standard monofilament or fluorocarbon lines. Braided line has less stretch and greater sensitivity then other types of fishing lines, which can mean more fish in the boat for the average angler. The goal of this article is to share the knowledge of an up-and-coming tournament angler with the average fisherman in regards to the advantages of using braided fishing line.

Outline:

  • Why to choose braided fishing line

  • How to choose the best braided line

  • Advantages of braided line for jigging and casting

  • Deadly combo -braided line with fluorocarbon leader

  • Common knots to use with braided line

  • Advantages of trolling with braided line

Article Abstract:

How to choose the right braid for you?

Some experimenting may be required in order to choose the correct braided line. Some lines are more limber than others, some smoother, and some more abrasion resistant. A good method to use in order to choose the right braided line is to give them the "thumb nail" test. Most of the time braided line has a little sample piece outside of the package. Take the piece, then slide it between your thumb nail and your finger. If it feels rough to the touch, the line may transfer noise while traveling through the line guides. Most species of fish are highly sensitive to this vibration, and that additional noise could be the difference between catching fish and not catching fish.
