How to add an outlet
661. Why add an outlet?
Extension cords and sockets often overload an electrical circuit,
which can blow the breaker and lead to blackouts. Overloading also
causes overheating of the facility or a short circuit. To prevent these
risks, the simplest solution is to add an outlet to an existing
circuit.
Install a new plug is a fairly simple work, which is not
considered electrical renovation. But to add an outlet in a pond or a
PTO, call a professional.
2. Electrical installation
The electrical installation begins after the circuit breaker. It
includes an electrical panel, from which several circuits, each
supplying several electric points around the housing.
Each circuit distributes a zone and a type of electrical
equipment. Typically there are one or more dedicated channels
specifically dealing with a caliber of protection between 16 and 20 A.
A circuit has a fuse or circuit breaker, lines consisting of cable
conductors and different devices (sockets, switches, fixtures,
equipment ...) supplied by these cables.
Each row has three cables: one cable stage (red), neutral (blue) and earth (green and yellow).
3. How?
When preparing your speech, make sure the circuit on which you
work may accept an additional outlet. A circuit outlets should not
exceed eight points of electricity and must be protected by a fuse or
circuit breaker.
The addition of a catch made by creating a bypass on an existing circuit, from an outlet or online.
1> Doubling an existing outlet: the derivation is made directly from it.
2> Install an outlet on a wall without equipment: it must install a junction box and draw a line to the new intake.
The junction box includes terminals that can connect cables between them.
The new line includes cables housed in a chute on the wall. There
are all the accessories needed to create a route in duct: inner
corners, line angles, T-junction, etc..
Warning! Cables of derivation must be of same section as those of the circuit on which the new decision will be installed.
4. The type of installation
Recessed: it is best if you double an existing outlet recessed. It
is then necessary household in the wall a passage for the conductor
cables, the terminals are housed in a box inset into the wall.
On base: it can double an existing outlet, which is on base, or create a new line from a junction box on base.
5. Safety devices
Differential Protection: In addition to the main breaker,
intermediate switches are typically installed on the table. They
control several circuits, distributed by area. The switches (breakers)
can cut or start the flow of electricity. A system of circuit breaker
is installed between each circuit and the breaker. They may be
incremental, that is to say, they also provide protection against any
leakage current.
If a circuit is overloaded, the GFCI interrupts the power
automatically. The differential protection, measured in amperes, should
be properly sized.
The grounding: all circuits are now equipped with a grounding. If
this is not the case of the circuit on which you want to intervene, it
is better to proceed with the grounding by a professional.
