How to set a Static IP Address on your Windows XP computer

This hub will help you to set a Static IP address on your computer. What ever the reason why you need a static IP Address this hub will help do that. I have the step by step guide on how to do it on your computer.

This hub is for computers running Windows XP;

First we need to go to Network Connection there are couple of ways on how to access your control panel. If you don't know how to go there follow any of the steps below;

  • Click on Start Button > Settings>Control Panel>Network Connections
  • Click on Start Button > Settings>Control Panel>Network and Internet Connection>Network Connections (under pick a control panel Icon at the bottom of the page).

Once you are in control panel go to the properties of your connection. To set a static IP address you need to know where you will you assign the static IP address. Is it on your wired connection (LAN) or wireless (Wireless Network connection)? There are times that you have a Wireless connection and a Local Area Connection showing at the same time. So in this case just make sure which connection should be configured with the Static IP address, the steps in assigning the Static IP address is basically the same. Here it is;

Right click the connection that you want to have the static IP address. Go to the properties window. Under the General Tab highlight or select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) from the list under "This connection uses the following items:" and then click the Properties button.

After this you will have the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties. Just put the tick on Use the following IP address, the IP address, Subnet mask and Default gateway field will not be come available. You can now specify the IP address that you want for you computer. You will also need to manually add the Subnet Mask and the Default gateway. The subnet mask can be automatically assigned by your computer, just lick inside the Subnet mask box and it will be automatically filled in.

And you can also manually set the DNS Server. You just set the DNS Server of your computer to Use the following DNS server. And that's it you are now done setting a static IP address on your computer.

I hope this has been informative and helpful to you.

Thank you for reading!
