Why Get Fans?

If you asked the question in the first place, I am sure you already have a reason. But I want to add a benefit to Why You Need More Fans -

Whenever fans log in to their hub pages account, they get a link to your latest hubs and therefore repeat traffic and more points and ad dollars!

First Step To Get More Fans

Who are your fans? First step to getting more of them is to first define them

Define your "demographic". Are they people :

interested in Cooking?

who play a lot of computer games?

people who are trying to make money at hub pages?

Any set of "fans" have something in common. What will all your fans have in common? They may have the same problems. They may have the same hobby. They may have the same interestes. Same profession may be.

Picture your ideal fan in your head. Make sure there are enough people in the world that fit your definition of a fan.

Write for your fans and nobody else.

That's right. If you are writing for an audience of Heavy Metal maniacs then write for them and them only. Don't write to appease the democrats as well as the republicans as well as the Ironmaiden fans. It rarely works out.

1. you would sound wierd to both parties.

2. you wouldn't have resonated with either party for them to consider becoming your fan.

3. you may not be able to communicate your ideas clearly to both of them.

Inter-link your hubs

Did you write a hub about how to upload a web page to a web server? Then link to the hub you wrote about 'how to create a web page' in the begining of the hub. Well not the best example but you get the point right?

Link to each of your other pages.

The more of your content your intended audience reads, the better. Make them feel like they are subscribing to a blog when they become a fan of yours.

Write a lot of related content

Have you defined your ideal "fan" and a topic to write about?

Good.

Now write hubs solely for those people on those topics. Not one hub. But multiple hubs. Make sure you research your hubs really well. There are no short supply of ideas. You can find tons of well researched, well written content in the blogosphere which you can easily adapt and write in your own point of view and put it in front of your audience.

Write a lot of good content

I am not becoming a fan of someone who just writes a lot of thin filler pages to get ad clicks on the topic. I want to feel like my life has been made better by reading your hub. Whether they entertained me or informed me.

I will save this topic for a detailed read at this hub. Mind you, 16 people don't comment for "thin filler page to get ad clicks". So go here and read this hub:

Click here to learn how to create great hubs

Ask them to become your fan!

Why not ask them to become your fan?

If I like the content you give me. I would most definitely like to get more content of that nature right? End your hub asking people to become your fan to be notified of more related or some "upcoming" hub that you plan on writing. It is really not "shameless self promotion" if you are genuinely interested in creating good content.

Well, I think i will follow my own advice:

How would you like to get notifications of my "power hubbing" articles? Articles to get more views, comments, fans and ad-clicks?

Become my fan and be notified of new hubs I post on the topic.

So what do you think? Did you like my hub enough to become my fan?Got some idea on how to get more fans yourself? Care to add it here for the benefit of fellow hubsters?

Add a comment below. I'm all ears.

Great hub. Thumbs up and yep, I'm a fan. Now have to go put this into my own hubs and see if it works for me as well.

Sorry, you have it backwards :(

10 fans for two months, and three of them out of that hub - you don't have the right to teach other how to do this...

Well Misha, I don't have as much time as you to create hubs here and in what little I have posted I have gotten 10 fans. I think that is pretty good. I got 10 fans out of 2 significant posts. I think that counts for something. Eitherways, getting a fan is like getting a blog subscriber and I KNOW how to get subscribers.

You may be good at getting blog subscribers, but social sites is a different animal, and you don't understand this.

Do the math, you have 5 hubs, and I have 6. You are here for 2 months, and I'm here for 5 months. If I would have followed your advice, I would have gotten approximately (6/5)*(5/2)*11 = 33 fans. I have about 10 times that number...

There are efficient ways of doing things, and there are inefficient ways. You are teaching people to do this in inefficient way

What matters more to you? My "stature" of authority? Or what I have to say? What I am saying here seems to be working. So far, this hub as gained me 8 Fans. I had 2 before this. Misha. Why don't you create a hub on 'how to get more fans'? If you really know better lets see how well fair against this hub? This is really not a "challenge". If you have a better way, then I am all ears too.

I'd also like to know which part of this is "inefficient". As far as I know, this is what goes into getting a following.

First, let me say that I respect you for not deleting but answering my tough comments. Many people in your shows would just deny them.

Now, let me try to explain why I think that it was wrong for you to publish this particular hub.

I started on the Internet about three years ago, and for the first probably year or even more I was heaving really hard time trying to sort all the information available into what works and what does not work. It should be understood, that on such a big scale as the internet *everything* works to some extent. Even doing nothing. The question then becomes - what works best, or at least good relatively to other approaches to the same problem.

By now I have pretty good understanding of what works good and what works bad. However, my first year was a real nightmare, when I was cutting through the pile of advice from people who plain didn't know what they were talking about or had only remote understanding of the subject. I remember this pain, and I want to minimize it for the fellow hubbers who are just starting their Internet journey.

Unfortunately, based on my experience with Hubpages and other WEB2.0 sites, your hub is misleading and adds to the pain and steepness of learning curve. Most of your advice is irrelevant, one is good, and one will be considered as spamming by many people here.

And, you missed the most important and extremely simple method that works many times better than all of your methods combined. I'm not going to write a hub on this, cause it is too short to make a good hub. I did tell this several times on forums, and I'm repeating it here:

Go out and make friends. Participate in forums, comment on other people hubs, and become fan of other people yourself. What goes around, comes around. It works remarkably good, both on Hubpages and in real life...

This is my last comment on the topic, I said all what I possibly could say here. Again, thank you for your courage of not deleting my comments, I know it is hard, and I respect it.

I have to admit Misha. I could be wrong too. I am not afraid to admit that at all.

What I wrote is being done by some of the top Hubbers already here like 'Isabella Snow'. She writes extensively on dating, inter links her articles AND her articles are really good. She does some of the things that my other hub suggests when creating a good hub. So its more of an *observation* if you will.

I am allowed to make an observation right? :)

Yes you are right - genuinely try to be a part of the community. That part I missed. I must kick myself for that. :)

Hey rajasekharan. If you think you missed something out, go back and add it. It's no big deal and you'll be improving your offering. One way to get fans (and I only have a few myself so I am no expert before someone shouts at me), I believe is to keep going back to the hubs and fine-tuning.

I think it just takes something small that you do that touches someone that turns them into a fan. Maybe. :-))

Raj, I'll be a fan because of your excellent attitude when criticised. Good for you.

One of our daughters said to me when I wanted to pounce on someone once, "those who are right can afford to be polite." I've noticed that those who condemn don't usually say things politely. But taking it humbly with a learners attiitude is tops.
