SPAM Mail: What to do?
My typical day at the office: Here it goes.... Go to my work station and place my stuff around the desk (to make sure to my boss that I already arrived)he he. Then grab my lunch to be kept in the refrigerator and make a quick cup of coffee(I do need my caffeine high). By the way I bump in to meet my colleague who tells me all about her kid (who is way out of control and probably another Michael Phelps in the making). Oh oh it's now 9.30 am I better get back to my work station my boss would be floating around my desk (Cause it's another of those details we need to be discussing before the daily scrum at 10). Woh back from the daily ordeal now time to get some things done.
By the way let me just check my mails (ofcourse fan mail you see I am diva) he he. I login... what 122 new mails. You got to be kidding I never knew I was so popular. Anyway let me check and reply to my fan mail(I wish). What another email offering me millions to give my bank information from deposed Nigerian leader (I guess I should relocate to Nigeria they have way too much money to throw around). And then another email about Cheap Viagra medicines available (If they had so much floating around I guess they could give it to Norway or Sweden where they are suffering due to negative population growth). Another match making email (I guess more than the singles it's the match makers who are desperate for the single to mingle). Now wait a minute how did they get hold of my email address (Even if I go to the unmentionable websites I sure am not stupid to leave my email Id there). Oh God is there no end to my ordeal (I wish I could find atleast one fan mail).
Finally my old friend Kiran's email about a new addition into the family tree gives me some hope and I head out to send an egreeting. My Boss pings me on the progress made so far on the earth shattering document that I have to report .. geeesh. After confirming that I am almost done!!! I head back to send my all important egreeting to my friend Kiran. As nothing is as important as bringing a new life into this world. Thank God atleast I have one email even if for it I had to dig through the whole pile.
I sure would love to get started on my report earlier if not for the spam mail but what to do? I tried replying back to unsubscribe and set the spam filter but still I am getting them. My friend suggested me to buy(WHAT spend $$) spam filter for my mails but then I decided the report can wait. All those on my Boss's side who want me to get the report done earlier can please post comments here (Well if you are on my side than please pray that the ratio of spam mail to fan mail improves in my favor).

I have used gmail and no spam seems to get through unlike hotmail!
It can be such a nuisance i know filtering the spam from genuine mail and im so glad to use GM now as my primary mail address.....When i want to look important in front of friends, ill open up my hotmail!! lol
Thanks Compu-smart. Hotmail is the first account I created and all my old school pals also have the same. Hence for their sake got to check it. I wonder if they have a free email forwarding service to gmail.
I once responded to one of these Nigerian mails in total gibberish!I created nonsensical sentences using non-existing words, paragraphed it, and hit send. LOL! I got a response thanking me profusely for "agreeing" to participate in the plan of fetching that box of goodies deposited in a bank in Amsterdam. I was also assured a payment of 50%, and was given a phone number to contact! re-LOL!
Spam is a pain and I will pray that fan v. spam prevails!!!

I'm with compu-smart there I use gmail exclusively. If anything they err on the side of caution, Ive had to rescue some mail from the spam file. I think gmail has a mail forwarding don't know about Hotmail. good hub.
i know how you feel, i get them in hotmail everyday. i try to unsubscribe from them as much as possibe other wise they will double and grow to infinity. great article
My system is sometimes overly efficient at sorting out the Spam - so I have to skim through the list every day. But that's quicker than having it all mixed up.
And working at home, I get 'cold' phone calls (only that's not what I call them).

Do you use gmail? Since I started using gmail the spam is almost non existent. Hotmail I got tons of spam. The fact that the 'cold' phone calls u don't call them cold maybe is due to the fact that u r a warm person, who doesn't want to give anybody a cold shoulder... hehe

Great Hub. I, too, have started using Gmail and haven't had any problem with spam since switching about a year ago. Gmail is now my email provider of choice.
Chuck- Although all my new contacts from the past 2 years are in touch with gmail but all the earlier school contacts are still in hotmail and that's where i have the most spam. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
YOU can't stop the email you send from going into your friend's SPAM filter.
Trsmd- Well my question was spam email from others into my inbox not mine to other's. Or maybe I didn't get your question?
