How to be a Champion and a Role Model
61How to be a Champion and a Role Model
You can champion the cause for change. A champion is someone who wins for others – someone who helps others achieve their goals and realize their dreams – someone who is passionate about the success of others. A champion fights not his own battles but battles to win for others. He is an advocate and a defender, a leader and a deliverer who fights for the rights and honour of others, and not for self or personal aggrandizement.
In 1 Samuel 17:32, the Bible declares "And David said to Saul, let no man's heart fail because of him; they servant will go and fight with this Philistine”. David was indeed a champion and a role model. Moses was also a good example of a champion and a role model. Moses was raised by God not to deliver himself, but to deliver Israel from bondage in Egypt into the promised land. In Esther 3-5, the story was told of how Mordecai and Esther championed the cause of the Jews amidst the threat of complete annihilation. Again, when Goliath of Gath terrorized the children of Israel, it was David who stood up and killed the giant and brought the fear of Jehovah upon the Philistines. See 1 Samuel 17:20-58. Because David was a champion, he also fought for the rights of the less privileged.
In today’s world, one wonders if indeed there are real champions and role models that can stand firmly to fight the cause of their neighbors and brothers without having a hidden personal agenda. In my country though, I can remember a good champion and role model, Gani Fawehinmi of his blessed memory.
How many times do you put food on someone’s table. How many times have you lifted someone up from financial and spiritual dungeon. How many times have you laid a helping hand to the needy. Do you know that you too can be a champion irrespective of your trade, position, tribe or place. God brought you into that place of influence not to be served but to serve. Remember the words in Romans 13:1. In other words, God wants you to be a champion, a role model and a deliverer. You can achieve this by being passionate about the welfare, success and prosperity of others, fight for their rights; be their advocate and defender – champion their cause.
Indeed, you can be the catalyst for a change in the nation. You can inspire that change. Remember, it only takes a spark to light up a forest. God wants you to be a champion and a role model for your world. Be a blessing to someone, to your community, to your country. There is always a need somewhere somehow waiting for you and I to fill.

Great hub and your comment of, "you can be the catalyst for a change in the nation, it only takes a spark to light up a forest" is true on so many issues facing nations. Apathy is one of the greatest destroyers of freedom and life!
Our propensity to help others should lead the way. The best leaders share this quality. Thank you, Philipo for reinforcing this notion.
@Nancy - thanks for your comments. God will touch the heart of every man/woman to do things alright.
dohn121 - thanks for the inspiration. Indeed, our propensity to help others should lead the way.
Let us all in our little way lend a helping hand to the down trodden, the oppressed, the helpless etc.
This is very encouraging and Motivating. Life is for living but also about giving. Thanks :)

We truly have to step up to the plate and effect change. We've become like sheep - being led to our own demise, not even asking questions. I have found a passion - to research and write about real food. The American food supply is unsafe and has almost no nutrition. We are the fattest and sickest nation on earth - and we still haven't made the connection to food.
Thanks for this hub - it serves as a reminder!
