IS THIS THE MOST FAMOUS SONNETEER?

While no one knows for sure what the most famous sonneteer looked like, many believe this photograph could be an actual photograph of the most famous sonneteer in his/her younger years.

Do you know what a sonneter is?

It is suggested that before one becomes a sonneteer s/he knows what a sonneteer is.

A sonneter is:

  • Person who wishes to have only sons as offspring.
  • The English version of Musketeers
  • A person who writes Sonnets

How did you do?

If you answered that a sonneteer is someone who wishes to have only sons you are an insenstive chauvinist pig.

If you answered a sonneteer is the English version of a Musketeer, you should be reading some other hub. Perhaps a more appropriate Hub for you to read is "What you should know before you obtain a pet rock (http://hubpages.com/hub/What-you-should-know-before-you-obtain-a-pet-rock). That would seem to suit your interest level and be more your speed.

If you answered a sonneteer is someone who writes sonnets you are correct and have a wonderful perception for the obvious. Read on!

Tarzan's Lyrics

The Most Famous Teer?

Could it be Annette was the most famous Sonneteer?

The Most Famous Sonneteer!

Is not Tarazan. While his cry was lyric as he swung through the tree tops, his metrics left much to be desired and were unsophisticated. For example, "Me Tarazan, You Jane," barely qualifies him as lterate. Although some claim that he did teach the apes who raised him how to write poetry.

Shakespeare as in William Shakespeare is considered by many to be the most famous sonneteer of all. There are more than 150 sonnets attributed to him. Some ask why did the bard write so many sonnets. Some professors of English believe that Shakespeare had a lot of free time and since television was  yet to be invented, he resorted to writing lyric poetry in the form of English Sonnets.

Annette Funicello  was the most famous Mousketeer, not the most famous sonneteer.

If you selected Annette as our answer it shows multi-syllable words such as mousketeer/sonneteer confuse you. It is also possible you still have a thing for Annette who was the only original Mousketeer to have a figure. The author suggests you keep your reading to the "See Dick Run" series.

The word sonnet came from:

As many things found in England the word sonnet was stolen from Europe. In fact, the English don't wish to admit it, but there is a theory that prior to the Norman invasion led by William the conquerer the English were not Saxons, but really Hobbits who lived in holes in the ground. Once one knows some background about sonneteers and sonets one should know something about

Rhyme Schemes

Iambic Pentameter

Samples of English Sonnets

How to Get Rich Publishing Poetry

A little something about rhyme schemes. No, contrary to popular belief rhyme schemes are not schemes to become rich by rhyming words. Rhyme schemes are patterns of rhyming lines in poems and songs. Letters refer to the lines that rhyme.; for example the pattern of A,A, B,B indicates a four line verse or stanza in which the end words of lines one and two rhyme and the lines of three and four rhyme.

Here is an example of A,A, B,B rhyming.

Life can be a bitter pill

So sour it will make you ill

Your honey can make life sweet

By sweeping you off your feet.

The rhyming scheme in a sonnet is a bit different. It is A,B,A,B,C,D,C,D,E,F,E,F, GG

Thus if the above poem were the first four verses of a sonnet it might read

Life can be a bitter pill,

Your honey can make life sweet,

And never, never make you ill,

Cause she will sweep you off your feet.

,

Unfortunately for the writer and fortunately for the reader sonnets also have a metric or rhythm to them. When the great Mr. Shakespeare arrived on the scene the form of the English sonnet had evolved into a metric known as iambic pentameter.

The reason for the evolution in iambic pentameter in the English sonnet, is that iambic pentameter more naturally fits the pattern of the English Language than some other rhythms. It is a pattern of writing in which a pattern of an unemphasized syllable is followed by an emphasized syllable. There are five pairs per line.

Mr. Bill Had No Computer or Internet to Help Him Compose!

Now imagine writing a sonnet in Mr. Bill’s era. No keyboard, no computer, no Internet, no online rhyming dictionary or online thesaurus or dictionary. Not even good light. Instead all one had was a flat surface, paper that was extremely expensive, ink, writing quills from feathers, and limited reference materials.

I tried it once. I tipped over the ink well, my chicken feather dripped rather than wrote, without reference tools I couldn't think of a word to rhyme even with hit, and the light was so poor I couldn't see. I recommend that only professionals should attempt doing such a frustrating task!

Although I am not the sharpest pencil in the box, I do believe my point is sharp enough to draw wit. However, as I toiled with the challenge of writing sonnets I could not imagine how anyone could do so under the conditions suffered by good William and his peers.

After Excessive Writing

A Three Martini Sonnet

A word of advice. There is speculation about using something to stimulate the creative juices. I frankly suggest at least three double martinis straight up. Here is an example of a wonderful sonnet I wrote after some gin dandy stimulation.

THE FALL OF LOVE OR "I DIDN'T DO IT !"

Spring’s sweet promise was sown when I was young and dumb,

We two as one, entwined in happy foreplay.

Your name, Trixie arose in dawn's light so glum

Morn had cooled the heat and brought rollplay!

Summer ballooned what had been so unexpected

Babes rose and grew with growing remiss

Becoming kids so totally rejected

Their leaving I never did miss

The flame burns hot it scars the fall

much baggage to my mind does leap

Standing venting, bad names we call

Bludgeoning our memories so to keep

"The mistrust thru the years creates a strong plight

It guides me away from you to my eyes a terrible sight

(The End)

The Facts about Earning a Livlihood as a Poet

In summation it is important to understand why so many modern poets do not make vast sums of money.  The reason is they write free verse. There is absolutely little or no money to be made in writing free verse. It is similar to writing hubs.

Look for successful poets to copy.

For example, If one looks at past poets such as Jack Frost, the famous Illinois poet known for such gems as The City of Big Butchers and He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother, you will find a lot of books with his poem and no free verses. He sold them.

It is suggested that if one wishes to be a poet s/he follow Jack Frosts example and stay away from free verse. There is no money in free verse.

To write for free, to write for fee,

'tis a question often pondered...

so,who would pay, for what I say,

so awkwardly 'tis conjured...

No wonder i missed all the questions..!!...Funny read, thanks, Larry

To conjure a sonnet

From under your bonnet,

Is done best after serious tippling.

Or you'll find it no joke,

To cunningly poke

Fun at the style of R. Kipling.

Glurk! One cannot answer an either or question with a "yes", or "no." On top of that, or, perhaps, beside it, your either, or construction is not an exclusionary choice. It could well be that writing sonnets is extremely lucrative, but you should take the course in taxidermy. Mostly, I think Shakespeare wrote sonnets because they got him laid.

Nik, Glurk. What would the world of literature do without that gem of a word. Thank you for your other comments. Although, I disagree with you. I once did take a course in taxidermy. I stuffed my teachers dog Thug. I hadn't realized the pooch was merely asleep not dead until it was to late.

As far as your last comment. Do ya think?
