Success in the Music Industry

A lot of us have talents but we don't know how to show those talents to the world. Me, I have a passion for singing AND writing lyrics. To me music is a big part of life and it also tells something about you as a person. Music inspires. Music is emotional. Music is part of who we are. It tells something about you.

In order to be successful...1st of all PRACTICE!!! Practice makes perfect. No matter what kind of music you are dealing with. Practice your material.

Since my focus is on singing...I will tell you how to be successful in that field.

1. Believe that you have the voice of a true singer.

2. As I have said before...PRACTICE!!!

3. Get known. It starts with you! You do whatever it takes to get known (as long as it is legal!)

4. Prepare a demo and pass them out. You never know whose hands that demo might end up in. (Make sure your demo is no longer than about 2-3 tracks)

5. Find places to perform. Be real. Perform your OWN music!

If you have trouble with your singing...here are a few tips and some advise for you. Always remember this: Never be embarrassed by your voice!

Find a vocal coach to help you along the way.

Find your vocal range.

Make sure to stand up straight! Your shoulders should be back and relaxed.

Make sure your face is relaxed when singing.

If you follow the above tips...you will sing nicely.

Another thing for beginners...you have to breathe correctly.

Have good posture. Get your shoulders back (not way back but not way forward), back straight, feet on the floor, shoulders relaxed.

When you are breathing in, pretend that you are smelling a rose.

When you are breathing out, pretend that there is a candle lit right in front of you and you need to avoid blowing it out.

Pretend your diaphragm area is a balloon, getting bigger when air is put in it and getting smaller when you breathe out.

In this way, you are controlling the duration through varied ‘compression of the bellows' instead of ‘restriction of the throat' which is an all too common problem.

Singing is not hard to do if you follow these tips and the instructions of your vocal coach. If you do the above...you will be graceful!

Here is a great site for people serious about beccoming a true artist!
