How To Change Windows 7 Start Orb

This article is all about how to change the windows 7 start orbit.
If you have photoshop and know how to play with it,then i would recommend you to make a template with PSD in the style you want.If you don't know how to do it theirs no need to panic as their are a lot places where you could get free templates with PSD in it.

For the procedure that I am going to describe below you need to have owner rights and login as administrator if you are not or you could watch the video below.

So here's what you want:-

Step-1

-Open MY computer and go to drive C:\.
-Open Windows folder, search for explorer and make two copies of it in your desktop and name one as explorer.DEFAULT(just for precaution) and the next one as explorer.CUSTOM

Step-2

Search for windows restorator 2007 in google.
get it and install it.

Step-3

Open the file explorer.CUSTOM in restorator 2007.You will see a option on the left hand side to expand bitmap-click on it.Now you'll see three files named as 6801,6805,and 6809.These are the files that we need to play with.
And all three of these files direct to the same image i.e Start.Orb.

Restorator 2007

Step-4
Make your own orb or get it from deviantart.com as its the place where I prefer to get them from.

keep your Start Orb.bmp image in your desktop.

Step-5
In Restorator Right click on any of the three files under the expanded Bitmap and select Assign>>>>Assign to..

Select the Orb file that you just placed on your desktop and click open.

Do the same with the rest of the files as well.
Now you'll see a shortcut icon on the left. What this basically indicates is that the file has been changes but the changes have not yet been saved.

To save the changes click on Ctrl+S.Now the shortcut  icon will be shifted to Right side, indicating that the changes made have been saved now.

You will also notice that a copy of your newly changed explorer.CUSTOM is placed on your desktop-If you want to delete it then go ahead and do it.

Now close your Restorator.

Step-6
Now open your drive c:\ and go to the windows folder.
Rename your explorer file to explorer.old and take your new explorer.CUSTOM from your desktop.
Put this explorer.CUSTOM in the Windows folder and name it as explorer.

Now just for the sake of precaution-Original explorer-renamed to explorer.old
Placed explorer.CUSTOM in windows folder and renamed it to explorer.

Step-7

Now we need to restart the explorer processes that Windows makes use of.While we do this all the programmes will be closed including this browser so its wise to bookmark this page now.
Press Ctrl+Shift+ESC,your task manager will open.
Go to processes and right click on explorer.exe and choose End Process Tree

Your screen will go blank-no need to panic.Just open your task manager again and choose File>New Task and enter explorer in the New Task box and hit ok.

Now your explorer has restarted and you'll probably see what you wanted to see i.e your own start orb(congrats lol)

Enjoy and please let me know how it goes.

And if you really want to go crazy with your new windows 7 then you are welcome to read some crazy stuff about windows 7 on my blog.
