Babies can be the cutest little things – that is until they start to poop and it is diaper changing time. A lot of parents dread this messy moment. But as long as you know how to change your baby’s diaper the right way, the whole process will just take a few minutes and you do not have to make a big mess out of it. Here are some tips that can help you change your diaper:

The first thing you need to do is to harness your instinct as to when you need to change your diapers. Usually this is easy because most babies would cry their hearts out once they start making a mess but there are some babies that will not even make a sound. If your baby is squirming uneasily and you notice that your baby is starting to smell then change the diaper right away. Keeping them too long in the mess can cause them to have infections and rashes due to the germs and bacteria found in their poop.

All you have to do is to take your baby to a changing table or on a surface that you wouldn’t mind being dirtied. Lay the baby with its baby up on the surface and secure the baby in a comfortable manner in the surface. Even if the baby is secured, make sure that you do not leave the baby alone.

You have to take off the diaper in a way that it is not messy. In order to this, you can remove the adhesive tabs on your diaper then open the sides of the diaper and let them lay flat in the surface. Then slowly slide downwards the front part of the diaper then take it all the way to the back. When doing this you have to lift the bottom of the baby by the ankles. Use the clean portion of the diaper to wipe the bottom of your baby as you slide it downwards.

Afterwards, fold the used diaper neatly and stick the adhesive tabs in the same place again. Make sure that the used diaper is out of the baby’s reach and that you dispose it immediately as soon as the baby is changed.

You can clean the baby with water, moist cotton balls or baby wipes. Make sure you wash the bottom properly and take extra care to wash their privates also. Then dispose the materials you used immediately as well.
