Able Postscript converter is a really handy program, it quickly converts PDF, PS, EPS and even illustrator Ai files to a very high quality black and white,Grayscale tiff, RGB or CMYK. You can select the output color and resolution. The Tiff file can then be used in programs that won't let you add postscript files and lets face it that's a hell of a lot of programs.The interface is old fashioned a-la pre 1990 visual basic, but who cares it does the job and HELLO it's FREE so I certainly won't complain.

The quality of the Tiff files generated are of a very high standard. I opened a PDF text file and converted it to a Tiff you can see from the screen capture that the quality is excellent. When you first load Able Postscript Converter it will prompt you to press an arrow button so as it can find Ghost script on your hard drive. This may take a few minutes and you will only have to do this once, the first time the program loads.

The program uses Ghost script to do the conversion work, so you will have to install Ghost script as first. But Ghost script is Free and a very handy program to have in its own right. Ghost script also has a good PDF, PS, EPS file viewing program which called GSview it is only a few meg. Compare that with the bloated Adobe Acrobat viewer weighing in at nearly 90 meg and very slow to load. GSview loads very quickly and does exactly the same job....go figure?

Ghost script is also used by Scribus (Open Source Desktop Publishing program) which shows to me the quality of Ghost script as a PDF file generator and converter. Scribus can export using the Industry standard PDF-X3 file format generated by Ghost script.

As you may have noticed from my other Hubs, I love having fast 'little' programs as well as the big Graphics packages, because the 'little' programs can usually do the job before programs like Adobe Illustrator has even started up. Time is money folks and these little programs also offer a solution to those who don't have big Graphics programs.......and don't want to have them either.
