How to create demand for your product through compelling sales copy
74Sales copy should do much more than just claiming the product to be good. It should hold the interest of the reader and persuade him to buy the product. With good sales copy, reader makes up his mind to buy the product by the time he finishes reading.
Superlatives are available easily for everyone to use. To write a good sales copy, you have to cut the clutter of "we are best" and come up with something more substantial. This is how you should go about writing a sales copy that can seduce your readers.
1. Finding the USP of the product:
You have to find a unique selling proposition for your product, which would set your product apart from its competitors. In case of a blurred distinction with the competitor's product, try to create a difference in branding and positioning. If we take a shot at washing powder, in spite of having almost similar products, advertisers claim to be unique by positioning their product as "washing powder for front loading washing machine" or "washing powder for tough stains".
2. Writing a killer headline:
With nine other flashy blue links competing for attention in the SERP, only a catchy headline can attract a surfer to click on the link. Headline should be crisp and should summarize the entire copy in a single line. Or else, it should create a mystery, so as to evoke curiosity in the reader and compel him/her to read the copy completely. "How to" headlines, promising a specific benefit, also work great. Headlines, questioning the reader about problems they can relate to, also have great impact on readers.
3. Language with a personal touch:
Sales copy should be like a smooth flowing river, slowly making its way into the reader's heart. Easy language with short and crisp sentences increases the readability of the copy. Technical words often scare the readers away. So break down the complex technicalities into simple sentences for the readers to understand. Sales copy should have a personal touch to it. Write it the way you would speak to your friend.
4. Hooker body copy:
Be honest about your product and discuss the pros and cons with the readers, instead of being superfluous. Adding a testimonial or two increases the credibility of the product. Address the problems which your prospective customer might be facing before coming across your product. Convince them that your product would be the best solution for their problem. If possible, provide evidences through photos and videos telling them how it helped you out.
5. Call to action:
The reader almost makes up his mind by the time he reaches the end of the copy. Only a little more persuasion would be required to induce action from him. End your copy with strong call to action to buy the product. Make other options like signing up a newsletter available to the reader. If he is still indecisive about the product and yet have some interest, you can persuade him further through newsletters. Money back offers within a month induce people to try out new product. Chances of a buyer claiming for a money back is extremely low, unless your product is of inferior quality.
Readers are human beings with strong emotions. With so much of appeal and seduction in the copy, it would be difficult for them to resist your product.
