How to create stained glass mosaics/planter pot
73Glass or tile mosaics
The sky is the limit when you think about creating mosaics with glass. Let your imagination go crazy. I would suggest starting with something simple to begin with although here are a few other ideas that you could try making for yourself:
Coffee tables, planter pots, photo frames, wall plates, drink coasters, vases, ornaments, wall clocks and garden stepping stones.
Patterns
Here again there is no limit to the ideas or subjects that you can use for your project.
Birds look beautiful when done in a mosaic. Flowers, butterflies, fish or in fact any animal at all look great on any type of project. Dolphins have always been a popular and favourite choice of mine.
Precut fish tiles
Various Colours
Choice of colours can make the difference between a nice and a beautiful mosaic. Vibrant colours make the dolphin or butterfly stand out from its background.
Made easy for the beginner
Manufacturers have made it easier still for the beginner by pre-cutting beautiful stained glass mosaics for you. This makes it safe and easy for anyone to use, avoiding the risk of cutting yourself.
Packs can be used by placing in moulds for indirect method or you can glue onto any object as a direct method. Most of these packs will be supplied by the manufacturer with complete instructions and patterns.
How to create your own Mosaic garden Pot
Why not be a little creative and try your hand at decorating one of your old terracotta pots with some mosaic tiles. Use a bit of imagination and create an image on one side or simply use different colour tiles to improve and enhance its appearance. You will need a few materials to do this.
Materials required:
Mosaic tiles (you can use broken pieces or pre bought ones) the choice is yours.
PVA Glue
Strong adhesive
Tile grout
Instructions
Terracotta pots are very porous so you will need to paint on a coating of PVA to seal the pot and leave for a day to make sure it is dry. This is where your creativity comes to the forefront.
Start at the top of the pot and work your way down, fixing each piece of tile to it with he strong adhesive. Remember if you are having a picture feature on one side to allow room for this and cut and fit the other tiles around it. (For outdoor pots you need to use a bonding mortar adhesive).
When all the tiles are stuck on you need to leave it overnight to set. Now you can grout in between the tiles leaving a smooth surface around the pot.
That’s it now all you need is some potting mix and a nice plant to show it off to its full potential. That wasn’t hard was it.
Tip: You could use even use broken old coloured tiles for your first attempt. To break them into odd shapes wrap them in a cloth and hit them with a hammer, not too hard or you will have none left to use.

Thanks for the tips. I am in the process of mosaic-ing a bowling bowl into a garden globe - an idea I also got here on Hubpages. I'll post pics when I am finished.
