Friends with OCD

There are several ways to deal with a friend who has issues with cleaning. In most cases, the friend with OCD likes clean organized areas and you just like your things the way that they are. The most help that you can provide them is to let them organize your life for you if that is the case. It may seem like an odd thing to do, but it will make their lives easier, and it will make yours more organized.

If you do have a friend that has been diagnosed, then you may want to learn about the disorder so that you can provide support and maintain a happy and healthy relationship with that person. Ask if there are things that you do that trigger a reaction from them. I have a friend who is really bothered when I don't put the dishes away after I wash them. It is something that really triggers her OCD and she can be upset for days about it. I typically waited until she left to put them away so that I was focusing my attention on her when she was over at my house. I didn't realize that the thought of the dishes being unfinished when she left my house had her in a bad state for days just thinking about it. After she told me about it, I either waited until she left to start the dishes, or put them all away.

There is a lot of information out that can help you be a better friend when your friend is in need. Good luck!
