How to divide a line into equal parts
65Dividing a line into any number of equal parts
This is a trick I learnt when I was doing my diploma in engineering, but it came in useful many times for illustration work. You can use it to space out things in your lawn, or wall or just make a quick grid wherever. Those who know this trick already, pardon me.
First, learn this method on paper; then you can use it anywhere you want.

You're right, Zsuzsy. Yes, with photo capsules. Even the text is an image. At least you appreciated something, LOL!
Its not that I didn't appreciate the whole hub...I was hoping you used the photo capsules as I just learned how to put phots on my hubs...Lets do this right
Kenny! I really think your hub is super. Thanks for sharing.
(I still say the capsules are soooo impressive looking)
regards Zsuzsy
Hehe, Zsuzsy, nothing you say will offend me anyway. I don't mind impressing you with something else I did unintentionally. Thank you for two comments!
lol i like to learn little things like this....dunno when i'll use it but there will come a time and I'll Know!
thanks Kenny
Yes, Stubbs, they came in useful at times when I had to divide a line whose length was not a round figure. I'll tell you all the tricks I know, one by one.
Thanks!
Great Hub Kenny and pics, I thoght the hub title was about something entirely different!!
I guess you can tel whats on my mind:P
I LOVE engineering techniques, Kenny! Thank you for a Hub I will look at again and again.
Patty
I have missed your ever magic hubs.
That was super
Thanks
Compu-smart! LOL, I guessed!
Patty, my pleasure, thank you!
Thank you, Super Frank! (I finally got time to do hubs.)
wow, neat hub :) geometry is my worst thing.
Thanks, algebra is my worst!
Algebra is my worst!
Thanks!
I loved algebra, it's like playing a game, and I only started having problems with calculus when it started combining with geometry. :o
How does this hub get all this comment attention and some of my best hubs don't have a single comment? lol thats it thats where i "draw the line!" haha ok sorry just wanted to insert that "line" haha ok I'm done.
Please drive through (^8<
lol, dude, I'd comment more often but the "approval" thing throws me off. I'll try to stop in soon, though. you are an enjoyable read with lovely hubs.
I always had problems with calculus. You are a better man than me, Iðunn!
As long as you draw, lines or whatever, Jerrico!
Thanks, both of you!
Great hub. Very smart. Thank you for sharing this.
Thanks, Cristina. I take credit for putting it here. Have to find out if Euclid was responsible. Will surely update when I find out.
I dont understand two things:
1: why wouldnt you just use the ruler along the a-b line?
2: who makes a ruler large enough for my lawn?
ha
great poster
Great hub, Kenny -- from the guy who can't draw a straight line with a ruler! Perhaps that can be your next hub?
Love your comment, Funnebone. Though ctitical, pertinent.
1. Suppose the line you want to divide is 5.3654 inches or something?
I am saving you a headachy calculation.
The slanted line can be clearly 5 inches or 6 inches depending on whether you need to divide it into 5 or 6 parts.
2. For your lawn, you can measure with a piece of rope, stick or your feet, and
thus divide the slanting line.
Thank you for helping me clarify this.
Kenny: Have missed you and my favorite hubbers, but have been busy as Phil and I are in partnership with an online business, and all day we have either inventory deliveries or shipments to make to customers; was tempted to close my hub account as I feel weird not writing anything or participating in hubpages, but the community is so diverse and interesting that I would hate to lose contact with good and creative minds, or stop my love for writing. :)
And as for your hub... I am very geometrically challenged, LOL! I can't seem to see a crooked line as crooked, it looks straight to me. No kidding. When it comes to aligning websites and art or certain things around the house, my sister takes over the artistic side on my websites, and Phil who is an engineer, but does not work in his field anymore, takes care of anything that requires precision, so your tips can come in handy one day for me as I want a Zen garden...
And I missed your long comments, Violet. Glad that you didn't give in to temptation!
About a crooked line being straight: that's philosophy and high mathematics.
Hope it comes in useful sometime.
Thanks for everything. :)
you worked hard to make this article happen. took photos and down-loaded them !
do you utilise these articles elsewhere too? like real-life tutorials ?
Thank you, Shyamal. No, I haven't used them anywhere else.
LOL, lucky for me I read down through the comments first, because I was going to say exactly what funnebone said... LOL!Also, I agree the LOOK of this post is really great... any way I could twist your arm to do a hubpage on HOW you put this page together (and I'm talking the exact steps LOL!)? Sure would be appreciated by hub newbie me :)
Diane, then I hope you read my reply, too.
There's no trick to the looks of this hub, and it also suffers from one disadvantage.
I just put the text into the picture, and arranged all the pix in one capsule.
The bad news is that search engine spiders will ignore such text, and my ranking,
as a result, will suffer.
So use this layout only if you have lots more text outside the pix.
I'll be laughed off hubpages if I write a hub on this! :D
Cool tip, will pass this to my nephew and niece. Cheers :)
Great, Cgull! Children delight in learning new things! Cheers! :)
I found it! :) Interesting hub Kenny. Thanks for the extra bit of knowledge!
Delighted that you like it, Pro!

Kenny! How did you get those individual frames onto your hub; those are awesome? With photo capsules? (Sorry, I'm suppose to comment on the line segmentation...) regards Zsuzsy
