Anyone can learn how to write articles of all sorts. In the beginning, the simplest way to start is to write a DIY article about something you have made or done yourself. That way, you have experienced the best ways to make it and the things to avoid in making the item first hand.

Earn money writing DIY Articles

Describe in minute detail how to create your masterpiece, keeping in mind you may be instructing a person with little knowledge of making something anything before.

  • First: make a list all the ingredients, materials, tools, anything you will need to make it.
  • Second: write down the systematic instructions, and specific techniques on how to make it. Make sure you write everything down, because you have done it your self, and take it for granted others will understand what you mean, is not good enough.

This is where computer instruction books fail miserably. To give you an example I had a woman ring me once saying that she put the mouse on the start button but nothing happened. I asked her to explain what she had done. She said, "Well I picked up the mouse and put in on the start button on the screen, like the book said." I had to restrain myself from laughing. Let's face it, the book does say click the mouse on the start button, right.

So be sure that a novice will understand your directions to the letter.

  • Third:offer extra tips and variations that the person might like to try to make it different to the one you have made. Also, suggest places where they can purchase the materials to make the item. Offer them instructions for finding information on the internet which could help.

Tip

Add Photo's or drawings to make the instructions more clear. Present the facts as they are, let your readers form their own conclusions on your item and descriptions.

Write for your local Newspapers, and community

This is another good way to start your writing career. It's the simplest way to ease your way into the local newspaper editorial pages. Use it for a learning curve to gain experience, as you will not get rich overnight.

Do your research; contact the local schools, churches and various clubs. Read their relevant newsletters from each, and find ways of providing each with a new additional point of interest. The local church members may be interested in the various hobby clubs for the elderly. Like bridge players, tennis, lawn bowls. Perhaps you could offer to write feature articles for the different events.

Schools newsletters could be interested in various student achievements. Suggest a for sale page for old uniforms and books. Start a handy hints column for mothers of young school age children. The limits are endless, just think of new ways to improve their local newsletters and improve your writing in the process.

Newsletters for Craft and hobby organizations and their members

Offer to start up a newsletter of your own telling the locals as to what clubs are available in your area. They may want to advertise in your newsletter. Hundreds of people are now turning their attention to making all sorts of crafts. It may be card making, knitting, crochet, and woodworking.

Whatever you do in life, you need to research all aspects of everything you do. Then do your best, if one particular idea fails, do not give up, the next one could be life changing. Never give up. If everyone took that attitude, we would not have any electricity today.

Local Sporting and Fishing Clubs

These articles are also in great demand. Try the technical magazines, horse equestrian and racing guides. Whatever you write, research it, do not give out any misleading information. This will ruin your credibility.

There are a tremendous lot of ideas and very practical.

I had an experience you made a comment.

We had a new young lady start in our office and had been there for three weeks and we had two very large business clients, come to talk a huge business operation, between us.

Our Office had a tremendous view of the Sydney Harbour and Opera House. Asked our new receptionist is she would organize a cup of coffee for the four of us in the meeting.

Young lady disappeared for some time.

Suddenly there was a clatter outside the closed door. I went and opened the door, there was young lady with two cups of coffee on the carpet and two cups on the tray.

There were no saucers supplied. So not only had she broken two of our coffee cups, but as I had only said four cups of coffee she did not think I required saucers to show these guests we were high quality. (In those days you did not offer Mugs of coffee.)I was embarrassed, our guests were amused and strangely enough we got the business. To this day I am not sure whether we got their business, because they were sorry for that young lady.

Incidentally the young lady was with us for five more years, improving every day she spent with us.

Louie . Thanks for stopping by.

Mr Marmalade, You always make me laugh. The moral of this story must be that good always comes from bad experiences. Am I right. We all make mistakes and deserve another chance. I wish you were around when I was a lot younger than I am now. Thanks for stopping by and reading my ramblings.

Hello Eileen, don't know if you've noticed but your Amazon adverts inexplicably contains the collected writings of Tom Paine. This is the first time I've ever been inclined to click on one of the adverts on HubPages. I'm not sure how much it would help novice writers to get stuck into Tom Paine though.
