How to improve your overall health

When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer I started doing alot of research. I read a lot of books and spent hours on the internet. I joined a couple of online support groups and I asked a lot of questions. The first thing I did was to cut out all sweets except fruit. Even the fruit is eaten in small portions. The only sweetner I use is Stevia and a little honey. Even when eating a large bowl of oatmeal I add a handful of organic raisins, half a banana or a teaspoon of honey. I limit eggs and when I do eat them I eat the high in omega three and free range choice when available.

Meat seems to be the biggest problem when your immune system is low and it is difficult to digest. I find ground turkey and talapia are two good sources of protein and easily digested. Talapia is also a good source of Omega three. Large clumps of red meat, especially steak, is one of the most difficult to digest. Pork is a definate no-no. Black beans and avocado with salsa on a whole wheat tortilla is a good staple. I have stayed away from most dairy products but love goat cheese. Lots of green leafy vegetables are the key to good health. I am fortunate to be a person that could easliy be 100% vegetarian due to my love for vegetables. Nuts and some grains can also be a valueable addition as they are very filling.

Lots of filtered water and fresh juices are especially enjoyable and are loaded with lots of nutrients. I bought a stainless steels juicer, not the big name brand that most equate with juicers, on Ebay for a reasonable price. I enjoy carrot juce and it is especially tasty with the addition of an apple or a handful of grapes.

One of my favorite foods has become nut butters with my favorite being almond butter and cashew butter in second place. I even bought cashew pieces and added them and some olive oil to a powerful blender and made my own on occassion. It is delicious. Small handfuls of raw nuts are good and filling too.

Some of the foods are expensive if you do not know where to shop. If you are fortunate to have a Trader Joe's in your neighborhood you are especially blessed as with careful shopping it can be quite reasonable. They have the best price on goat cheese, wheat tortillas and nut butters that I have found.

I started the diet to help fight my cancer and found that I also benefited by losing weight. It seems that foods with additives really feed one's poor health, low immunity response and easy weight gain. I have fought the battle of the bulge all my life and found that this way of eating was one of the best as I can eat all day long if I eat the right foods. I took off 65 pounds without really trying and my cancer has not spread.

  I also started a regiment of taking vitamins and supplements that I read about. At the very least a good strong multiple vitamin seemed to help my energy level. I also added some probiotics, shark cartilage(be aware if you are allergic to shell fish) and a lot of vitamin C. Each person has to read and study what is best for their own needs. A good brisk walk or swim doesn't hurt the effort either.

One of my favorite meditations is to put the head phones on, tune out the world, and relax. Don't forget to get a peaceful night of sleep too. If you sometimes feel the need to sleep a little extra, relax and sleep. Even if you do not have cancer or a weight problem most of the above regiment I follow will help your spirits. Every person has to adapt the above to fit their own needs but the ommission of food additives, fast food, meat and lowering your carbs seems to be the key to better health.

Last but not least I also eliminated any caffeine which has brought my blood pressure into normal range now.Good life and good health to you.
