How to fight our spiritual giants
55Our "David" Mentality
What do we do when our back is up against the wall? Psychology says we are born with the fight or flight mentality; when faced with danger, we either fight or run. Christians, however, have what can be referred to as the "David" Mentality. David was up against a giant as we all are at times. He could have ran and hid, but he stood on faith and used what God had equipped him with; and triumphed over his enemy.
This is exactly what we are supposed to do when faced with trouble. Our dangers in these days aren't real life giants, but they can seem large and overwhelming. Our society today is facing one of its largest "giants" in years; recession. Jobs are being moved overseas, prices have sky-rocketed, and many people are losing their homes due to forclosures.
What are we to do? According to the word of God and our "David" reference; God has already given us everything it takes to defeat our "Goliath". Yes the task seems incredible and yes we are up against the fight of our lives, but God will see us through. He has not given us a spirit of fear, but of love, power, and a sound mind. These are the tools necessary to defeat our enemies.
David used a small rock to bring down Goliath, so don't think that it takes a lot of strength or muscle. In this recession, for instance, all we need is faith the size of a mustard seed; faith that God will provide for us; and it shall come to pass. We can't do anything about the condition of our society, but we can do something about our reaction to it.
If God is for us, who can be against us? Many Christians talk a good game, but when push comes to shove, they are shoved out of the way. We are the light used to bring others closer to God; how do we do that if we aren't trusting God ourselves. Let's be like David and bring down any enemy we may come up against.
Original Piece (Facing the Giants)
Facing the Giants
Call me David because of my Goliath plight. But also call me blessed because I live for Jesus Christ!
When I cry, He makes me laugh. When I try, He clears my path; and I know when I die I will be free at last.
There will be no more shackles and no more rain. I call Him ibuprofen because He takes away my pain; but I also call Him Jesus because there is no greater name!
Call me Daniel because I lay in beds of lions. But also call me favored because although I fall, I’m trying and although I’m small; through Him I tackle giants!
Call me Apostle Paul as I stand from my Damascus fall. I cried out “Lord”, and He graciously heard my call.
Then He gave me faith to crumble giant walls and a testimony that would one day reach us all.
Call me a child of God because of my salvation. But also call me penicillin because I’m here to heal the hearts of a lost generation.
And also call me blood because I need to flow out into this entire nation! But please give God the glory! Serve the Creator and not His creation.
Lord, give me faith to move mountains and walk on water; not literally but spiritually because I am your daughter!
And as I lay all of my burdens down at this poetic alter, give me strength, not just to face my giants, but to also prepare for their slaughter. Amen!
