Easy crochet patterns for beginners

Learning to crochet is a beautiful and relaxing way to enjoy yourself, with the added bonus of having products created with your own hands. What could be more rewarding than that?

Left Handers

Do not despair there is help for you. Left Handers can still crochet the same as right handers except you work the other way.

If someone can show you how to make chains and the simple double crochet,

it will make it easier for you to learn. If not there, are many sites on the internet with picture diagrams to show you how to hold your crochet hook and form the different terms used in crochet.

This link says learn to knit, although its first article is to make a simple block. Then you make heaps more so you can join them together to make a warm blanket for winter. This could be a great present for someone.

One of the sites is Craftown. http://www.craftown.com/crolesson.htm

This site also gives you the pattern directions for making simple and easy items.

It also gives you the meaning of all the abbreviations used in crochet.

When starting out, do not expect to make something like an expert, creep before you crawl. Use scraps of wools, so you are not wasting your good ones. If you make mistakes and have to undo it several times, it could split the thread and weaken it.

Another thing is to make small easy items, and then if you make a mistake you have not lost much. Read the directions before starting. If you do not understand a stitch then you can try it before becoming frustrated or too involved in something without understanding it.

If you do not have the internet, join a crocheting club, or check out the libraries or pensioner organizations.

As a child mum taught us to make small squares with all her scraps of wool. Sure, we made mistakes because that is part of learning, everyone does.

You can make different articles from all sorts of materials. I remember mum used to make our mats from all her old laddered stockings. They worked brilliant; as they were nylon, they dried quicker too. Enjoy the learning process, what ever you make.

I'm new to crocheting and am always on the lookout for websites to aid me. The links you had were very helpful. I wanted to pass along a video site I found that has a few basic videos showing <a href="http://www.monkeysee.com/play/6925-how-to-crochet& to crochet</a>. I'm not sure if you're interested in how to videos, but I found these useful when I was just starting out.
