If you intend to start a new business then purchase the best and most suitable equipment that you can afford. To do this you will need to search for the best and cheapest bargains. It will of course depend on the type of business or office equipment you are looking for. Is it for a small home office, a large office with several staff, or a mechanical workshop, or warehouse? No warehouse or business is the same; some will require more equipment than others will.

THE OFFICE

You could manage with an office chair, computer desk, bookcase, and either a metal or a wooden filing cabinet. The larger office will require more of each of those items. In addition, for the customer waiting area, add a couple of nice chairs. You could also add a water cooler, as it will offer your client or customer a cheap refreshing drink to pass the time.

THE WORKSHOPS

The workshops will need a lot more equipment depending on what sort of mechanical workshop it is. For instance, the auto repair shop will need many tools and cabinets with which to store them. A hoist to inspect the cars, plus they will still need a reception desk and office equipment, with chairs for the waiting room for their customers, and the water cooler.

There are many places where you can find cheap bargains by purchasing used or slightly damaged articles. You could buy some of these items from on-line auctions, although it would cost more for freight, and you cannot always see the faults from the pictures provided.

Checkout all the Auctions

If you still wish to buy on-line then try eBay auctions. The big auctions are a great place to start. Look through your local newspapers to see when the auction is on, and then arrive early before it starts so you can check out what items interest you. Write the item numbers down so you will know ahead of time when your item is coming up for auction. Be very careful, set yourself a price limit, and do not exceed that price. Beware, as it is so easy, in the excitement of bidding to pay far more than it is worth.

SECOND HAND DEALERS OR OP SHOPS

This is often a good place to look for bargains. You can find plenty of these although, if you are not sure where they are, let your fingers search through the local yellow pages. Often you could pick up things that have a scratch and need a polish, or re-varnish them and they will look new again. Do not forget to bargain, most dealers will reduce the items more for cash. Check out the furniture stores, they may have seconds or damaged items, which you could purchase a lot cheaper.

GARAGE SALES

This is another good place to find bargains. Often the owners are moving interstate or transferring with their job and need to sell everything to avoid the high costs of shifting. Make sure the drawers slide properly, as often they have plastic runners, and they are not strong enough. Check the doors on cupboards, make sure they open and shut, and if ones with locks have their keys.

If you still have not found what you need, then advertise in the local newspapers, someone is sure to have the necessary item. Remember to bargain, as most people ask their top price, it is up to you to bid them down and receive a bargain. The money you save here will buy something else you need.

It is wise to be patient when outfitting the start up of a new business. Try to delay expensive purchases as long as possible. Your needs will change as the business takes shape.

We all get some excitement when buying new things for our business. Remember to conserve your cash. If you have limited funds, it is much better to invest those limited funds in getting the business going than in furnishing a nice office.

Also remember that used office furniture and equipment can often be acquired for cents on the dollar if you find someone going out of business. And those occur every day.
