The Kindle is the exclusive ereader developed by Amazon that lets readers carry hundreds of ebooks with them and download new ones in seconds. Amazon modified its software to develop a reader for iPhone users as well. Most ebooks are $9.99 but from time to time ebooks can be downloaded for free.

Big Deals on Kindle

Under the Departments menu on the front page of Amazon is the Kindle Store. Under the Special Features section is the category "Big Deals on Kindle." This page showcases free ebooks that are currently available. The majority are romance titles, but others are from fairly well known authors. Some publishers are marketing to new readers and giving away a free book might entice them to read other novels by the same author in the future. Most of the books are only free for a limited period of time, so if a book has any appeal at all, it would be wise to download it for future use

Kindle Top Sellers

This list tracks the top 100 downloaded ebooks for the site. Because most readers will take advantage of a free offer, many of the top 100 fall into this category. One would think that the list of free books would be identical to those found under the Big Deals category but this is not always the case. It is worth looking both places.

All Kindle Books

The last entry of the Categories section is All Kindle Books. Amazon currently has over 300,000 ebooks in its inventory. By sorting from Low to High readers can find literally hundreds of ebooks for free. Most of the selection is part of Google's library of older works and would be consider classic literature. Not all will be appealing but the price is right.
