It has been my experience that you cannot use POP access or mail forwarding with Yahoo unless you sign up for a Yahoo! Plus Account, which is $20 I guess. I just tried doing this for a friend that doesn't want to switch to gMail (which I highly recommend doing) unless he can get all his old mails at his new gMail account. Normally that wouldn't be a problem, but Yahoo is the only eMail provider that I know of that charges for POP and Forwarding.

Check it out, it's not available unless you pay:

I thought they dropped that requirement?! I definitely don't pay for Mail Plus, and that option seems to exist for me. Maybe it's because I get my DSL from AT&T/Yahoo?

Wow, I don't know. Did you get your eMail address through AT&T Yahoo too?

My email with Yahoo predates my DSL service through them, but there might be an automatic semi-upgrade if you do. Not sure.

That could be. It would be very generous of them at that. Do you think the hub needs to be updated?

Hey Jonno - you're right. A friend who doesn't have DSL through AT&T Yahoo said that she couldn't forward her mail. I've added a note at the top of the Hub.

IF only I'd known the truth about email, yahoo and the internet as early as 1968 I MIGHT BE a rich jerk but as of now I'm a poor jerk.

I live in New England where our DSL provider was Verizon, and the POP/Forwarding directions here worked for us. Then, this weekend, Fairpoint Communications officially took over DSL service, and are not extending the partnership with Yahoo. As a result, our yahoo email addresses which were linked to our Verizon accounts were "unlinked" and since then I can't access my email via Thunderbird email client. Looks like I will finally be making the switch to Gmail (had no issues with Yahoo since I was able to use an email client program with it up til now)
