Passing a Ballot

How laws are made, is something the average person probably does not think about.

Now for this election year politics are on the minds of many and issues are of concern.

Higher gas prices, economy and the loss of jobs have people wondering who they should vote for in the coming elections. Grassroot organizations are all in force to start a movement for change.

To understand the process a definition of what a petition is and what it does needs to be explained:

A petition, or Ballot Initiative, is a process that allows individuals who are not elected representatives to pass or challenge laws or to modify their constitution . There are between 22-26 of the fifty states that have this process.

Once a petition is filed, the person or organization backing it (called the proponent) has a limited amount of time to collect enough signatures to qualify it for the ballot. That amount of time is dependent on a number of factors that vary from each state. Once the required number of signatures have been gathered, the petitions are presented to each county's Registrar of Voters. The Registrar is responsible for checking the signatures. Once verified the petition goes onto the ballot, where it's up to the voters to pass or reject.

Signature gathering firms are hiring petition circulators to get these signatures so if you want to get involved and make a difference

Working as a signature gatherer, or circulator, gives you absolute control over your day. You are in business for yourself and responsible for your own bookkeeping and taxes, as well as the quality of the signatures you collect.

Pay is commission only & by the signature, which varies from $.50 to $8.00. The price is determined by a variety of factors, including, but not limited to how many issues are in competition for the signature, how many signatures are needed, how much time is left for collection & how popular the issue is.
