If you have yor own hosted blog, like wordpress, two very useful plugins to get and activate are the Ultimate Tag Warrior and share-this. You can simply use smart ftp to upload these plugins. Once you have this you will simply need to configure both of the plugins. Now, of course, you will also want to claim your blog with Technorati and Blogcatalog. Another thing that I use a lot are widgets, either the headline animator from feedburner or a wiget from widgetbox.com that uses your feedburner RSS. These widgets can be place on your myspace, Facebook, Squidoo or any of a number of social networking sites. I even put widgets from one blog on my other blogs. I also put my widgets on my websites. I believe that google's spiders are attracted to these "interactive" sites. If you're using wordpress, in the Options section under writing, you will want to put many ping sites.
