How to get over jet lag ASAP
74My top 6 tips for getting over jet lag
These hints and tips are the result of my own personal experience. This hub has been my most popular so I've started a blog - http://howtogetoverjetlag.info I have been fortunate enough to travel widely and these tips are the approach that I use for overcoming jetlag. It is an approach that I have worked out for myself and it works.
1. Make sure you eat proper meals at the correct time for the time zone you have arrived in. I disocvered this on one of my trips from the UK to Australia. That particular time I stayed with friends who didn't eat lunch. I woke in the night for three nights in a row until I insisted on eating lunch. Have a good midday lunch and a good evening meal to prevent waking in the night because your stomach thinks it is time for a meal.
2. If you arrive very tired, but it is still early in the day, have a short sleep. If you don't sleep you will become overtired and for some reason this stops you sleeping. If you oversleep you won't be tired at bedtime.
3. Ask your doctor for some mild sleeping pills. These will help force your body to go to sleep at the right time. I find I have to take these for a maximum of two nights.
4. When I travelled to New Zealand a few years ago I found a homoeopathic product called "No Jet Lag". I took these as recommended on the home journey and had fewer effects of jet lag. Edit: When I first came across these they were only available in Australia/New Zealand. But I've just added an Amazon module to this hub and I see they are available there. Try them, I was amazed at how well they worked and recommended them to lots of people at the time.
5. Drink plenty of water on the plane. It is easy to dehydrate on long haul flights as the atmosphere is dry and drinks are usually not offered frequently enough. Keep a bottle of water by your seat and refill from the water supply at the back of the plane. Preventing dehydration means you won't wake in the night after you have arrived because you are thirsty.
6. Don't drink alcohol on the plane - see 5 above.
