How to get rid of an itchy scalp and dandruff without using harsh dandruff shampoos. What are some natural remedies...
69Is It Really Dandruff?
When you are talking about having an itchy scalp and flaking did you know it isn't always dandruff? Sometimes it is just a sign of a DRY scalp! So have someone do a proper disgnosis before treating, or try the dry scalp remedies first and if they do not work then go to the actual Dandruff remedies.
So there are a couple of ways you can tackle your problem.
If you have Dandruff: This can be caused by a fungus that is fairly resistant or from soborrhoic dermatitis.Use a shampoo that is specifically for dandruff, with either a coal tar base or titanium or zinc oxides.
The other things that work really well are shampoos based on certain herbs, nettle is especially good for dandruff as is tea tree oil (as long as it is diluted and used regularly.
If you have a dry scalp: Wash your hair in a gentle shampoo, such as a baby shampoo or one that is based on coconut oil to retain as much moisture in the scalp as possible. Then use a conditioning masque such as a colourless Henna masque on your scalp and hair and leave for around 2 to 3 hours, rinse out thoroughly, with warm water. In the final rinse of your hair use warm water with 1/4 cup of lemon juice in it, to alter the pH of your hair to alkaline as this settles and refreshes the skin layers. You should find your scalp feels so much better and your hair will be amazingly shiny!
Do this at least once a week for a month and then at least once a month from then on, as if you are prone to dry scalp this is the only way to keep it in good condition.

This answer is much better than the others and by no means overly promotional or just a picture like the first two hub answers. Thanks for taking the time to answer this request more thoroughly.
