What Are Hemorrhoids


Hemorrhoids (also known as Piles) are veins on the wall of the rectum and in the tissues at the opening of the anus. These veins can become inflamed and swollen through straining during bowel movements, poor diet, and during pregnancy. The symptoms of hemorrhoids are itching, burning, bleeding, and pain. Symptoms can become worse due to constipation.

Over 40% of people will suffer from hemorrhoids at sometime in there life, but few people talk about it because of embarrassment. In this article I will make you aware of the various treatment options available so that you can make an informed decision.

One option is to run to your nearest pharmacy and choose from the vast amount of hemorrhoid creams available. Many over the counter treatments can help treat hemorrhoids but be sure to follow the directions carefully as some have side effects headaches and dizziness being the most common.

Aloe Vera- This stuff is great for treating sunburns but it also can be used to treat hemorrhoids. Apply to the anus the aloe will help soothe the burning sensation.

Witch Hazel- soak a cotton pad in witch hazel and apply to the effected area 3 times dailyto reduce swelling and stop bleeding. A tip put the bottle of witch hazel in a bowl of ice for 20-30 minutes before soaking the cotton pad.

Sitz Bath-Fill a bathtub with three to four inches of warm water.The warm water helps to kill the pain while increasing the flow of blood to the area, which can help shrink the swollen veins

Here are a few more tips that can help you relieve your discomfort associated with hemorrhoids. Eat a diet rich in fiber from fruits and vegetables. One of the biggest reasons we get hemorrhoids is constipation and we get constipated by not eating enough fibre. Go for walks 15 minutes twice daily. If you work at a job that has you sitting for long periods of time every hour get up even if for just a few minutes. Drink green tea it will help improve digestion.
