Migraines

What is migraine:

Many people suffer from migraines, stress headaches and cluster headaches. It is quite painfull. Migraine is an intense, throbbing, and recurrent headache. It is a hereditary condition, and the inheritance is passed down through the females rather than the males. It generally affects one side of the head and often behind one eye or temple but sometimes affects both sides of head accompanied by nausea or vomiting and is particularly sensitive to bright light, loud noises, and smell.

A migraine headache comes on suddenly. The head and neck muscles, reacting from continuous stress, become overworked. The tight muscles squeeze the arteries and reduce the blood flow. Then, when the person relaxes suddenly, the constricted muscles expand, stretching the blood vessel walls. With each heart beat, the blood pushes through these vessels and expands them further, causing intense pain.

Migraine gives a fair warning before striking. The patient sees flashes of light or black spots or only parts of the objects in front of him.

There are many natural ways to get rid of migraines................

The first one is laying down in a dark cool room with a lukewarm cloth over your eyes and forehead. Trying to clear your brain of all thoughts and laying still for 30 minutes.

The second one is using pressure points. To do this, you will need an old clothes pin (you do know what those are right?). Anyway place the clothes pin as tight as you can stand on your left hand under your pinky finger and above your wrist in the fleshy part. In order for this to work, REMEMBER it has to be tight, leave it on for an hour or more.

The third technique is slightly odd but works. In an upright sitting position place your feet in a hot pan of water; as hot as you can stand. While your feet are in the hot water, simultaneously place something freezing cold around your neck. Try to relax and do this for roughly 20 minutes.

Your headache/migraine should go away after using at least one of these techniques. Let us how they worked for you! Good luck!

Migraine headache

A migraine headache is a very common disease associated with neurological conditions. It is different from other headache types and can affect people of all ages. Millions of people around the globe suffer from migraines but in the vast majority they are women especially between the ages of 20 to 50.

A migraine headache crisis can last between 4 to 72 hours and most patients report that sometimes the pain is intense. People who never experienced a migraine headache cannot understand the discomfort that such types of headaches can cause to sufferers.

A migraine headache attack can be initiated with or without any warnings and during the crisis can affect daily life activities. It is very important to be in position and identify the symptoms prior to a migraine attack so that you take the necessary preventive measures to avoid the pain. It should be understood that the headache itself is not the first sign of a migraine headache crisis. There are other signs that come before the attack, warning the patients of the upcoming event.

Migraine warning signs may include:

Sudden desire for sweets (or other type of foods)
Being un-usually excited
Feeling hyperactive, full of energy
Feeling suddenly tired
Your mood may change without any special reason
You suddenly want to sleep and start yawning.

The above signs are warnings that a migraine attack will take place. What actually triggers the migraine may be one or more of the reasons below:

Emotional factors: anger, anxiety, tension, excitement, depression, stress

Physical factors: Being tired mentally and physically, change in sleep habits, poor gesture, changes in weather conditions, changes in time (when traveling)

Diet factors: When you are on a strict diet or fasting, excessive consumption of certain foods like caffeine and alcohol

Environmental factors: bright lights, loud sounds, intense smells, smoking

Hormonal factors: Hormonal changes during and before menstruation, menopause, and pregnancy

Other factors: taking sleeping pills, sinus problems, neck ache

If you manage to be in position to identify the migraine warnings then you will make your life easier by taking preventive measures. In the cases that the above warnings are not visible and you are attack by a crisis then you can either use some self help measures to get relief from migraines such as massage or lying down in a quiet room and try to sleep until the pain is gone, or seek the advice of a doctor on how to treat the pain. Usually the most common medication used today for migraine cure are triptanes, which are stronger than normal pain killers, and can provide relief during the crisis and also be used for the prevention. In any case, if the pain and frequency of the migraines cannot be cured by medication or self help measures then you must visit one of the doctors specialized in migraine headache treatment to make a proper diagnosis and suggest better medication.

How to get rid of a *MIGRAINE* Headache using EFT Technique

Home remedies for Migraines

One home remedy for migraines is to have some hot tea. It doesn’t particularly matter what sort, but people say that sitting down with a cup of hot tea helps relieve the pain of a migraine.

Visualization is a useful tool in managing all different sorts of pain. In the case of a migraine, it can be helpful to envision the pain as being localized in one’s head, and to visualize oneself "pushing the pain down" from the head and out of the body, perhaps through the nose or mouth. This is perhaps one of the more interesting home remedies for migraine relief.

Another of the home remedies for migraines is to stimulate the nerve endings in your nose with a q-tip – put it in and gently rub. Sensory information from the nose may interfere with the messages of the pain in the head, providing some relief.

Caffeine is a main ingredient in nearly all migraine medications, and this is the case for a reason: caffeine can provide significant relief during a migraine. Along with the tea option, drinking a bit of coffee or another caffeinated beverage may provide pain relief.

Taking deep breaths and focusing on your breath is another of the great home remedies for migraine relief. It may take a while to feel relief, but it also assists with relaxation (as stress is often a trigger for migraines).

Applying some type of pressure to the head is helpful for many people. Some people prefer compresses, and whether it is hot or cold is generally a matter of personal preference. Another remedy that people report is tying a bandana or scarf around the head, which results in pain relief.

People report certain types of oil as helpful home remedies for migraine relief, also. Perhaps due to an aroma-therapeutic effect, applying peppermint or lavender oil to affected areas has been known to produce relief. Some aromas that are particularly helpful for headache relief (other than those mentioned above) are sandalwood and eucalyptus.

Massage is also a great option for naturally treating migraines - in addition to stimulating blood flow, it promotes relaxation and assists relief in that capacity. To make it even more effective, use massage therapy in conjunction with aromatherapy by using essential oils for the massage.

A few other home remedies for migraine relief are not as popular as those mentioned above, but are certainly worth exploring as treatment options.

For some people, seeing a chiropractor has produced wondrous migraine relief. Drinking ginger root ground up and mixed with water is also purported to alleviate pain and migraine frequency. Increased magnesium intake or supplementation is another option, that some say has eliminated their migraines entirely.

There are many different types of natural treatments for migraines. The fact that migraines are poorly understood further underscores the fact that they occur in a very subjective manner, and what works for one sufferer may not necessarily help another. It is important to have patience in exploring different home remedies for migraine relief, and to realize that everyone’s body functions differently.

However, it is certainly worth the "trial and error" involved in treating migraines naturally, because many of the migraine medications available today are exceedingly harsh on the body. If migraines are persistent or exceptionally severe, it is important to seek the help of a healthcare professional, as it may signal a larger problem.
