Nowadays everyone surfs the net, and I know that the hard disk space (the price per megabyte) is getting lower and lower...

But there are still people with small hard drives, and everyone - no matter how free space they have - needs to do some maintenance on it's hard drive.

One very cool, simple and small program to do this is CCleaner. Just go to the webpage, download it and install it.

After that run it, and you'll get this screen:

So, on the main window you can see in the left Bar:

• Cleaner icon - this main option, and the default one when you start de program, is where you'll clean all temporary files and the files that you really need on your computer;
• Registry Icon -choosing this option you'll get the chance to remove any unsed entry in your registry, cleaning it up a little;
• Tools Icon - here you can uninstall programs (like the option in the control panel - remove programs) and choose what programs should load/start when windows starts;
• Options Icon - several program options

So, let's start explaining all this options. Starting by the "Cleaner" option, you just have to click on the "analyze" button on the right and after it stoppes analyzing just press the "run cleaner" button to remove everything you don't need. After you run the "analyze" you'll get the log about how much space it can remove and what are the files that it will remove.

This is the simplest thing you can do. But of course, if there are some things you want to keep, like "recently typed urls" just uncheck that box and you're done.

There's also a tab called "applications", here you can choose which applications temporary files to clean.

In the "Registry" option you'll get this screen:

On this screen you can choose which registry errors to found. Usually I leave all boxes checked and I just press "Scan for Issues". After it found all the erros in my registry I press the "Fix Selected Issues". Then ccleaner will ask if you want to keep a copy of your registry before fixing this issues (it's always a good ideia to do this) and then you can select the option to fix every issue found.

Just a quick note for those who don't know what the registry is: more present in the Windows XP, it's where all your computer definitions are, the programs you installed, the options you selected, everything...

After the registry windows, you have the "Tools" one. Here you'll see thes e two screens:

When you enter the "Tools"option you go directly to the "Uninstall" part.This screen function is the same as the "add/remove programs" you have on your control panel. It does the some thing, it gives you the option to correctly remove the programs you have installed and no longer need it. If you want to remove a program, try to use this instead of the control panel option, because it works better (it cleans better all the program traces in your hard drive).

The second screen is the "Startup" screen. As I said before, here you can choose what does startup with your windows. If your computer takes "forever" to boot windows, try to remove some options you don't think you need.

Finally, you have the "Options" screen:
