For anyone who is looking to start beekeeping this article will provide you with some of the first steps to a successful beekeeping operation. Beekeeping is a rewarding hobby or even business to take on.

Today we are going to talk about how to manage your existing hives you have. One of the issues that may arise is swarming. This happens when you hive becomes overcrowded and requires more free space within your hive. The brood colony will start to become overcrowded in which the queen will start to feel uneasy. This in turn has the effect of unbalancing the existing population and with start the swarming process. There are other reason this may be caused such as bad weather in which you will find comb within spare space within the hive box for example hanging from the lid. The lack of ventilation often in conjunction with overcrowding you will see this as bees start to fan their wings near the entrance and one cause to look for is winter blocks near the entrance. Ageing queens can also cause this, while a queens lifespan is that of about 3 years a worker bees life is about 6 weeks. If a queen is laying less eggs the bees with notice and start construction of queen cells. These cells take the form of peanut shell and nurse bees will feed the grub with concentrated bee food or also called royal jelly. The hormones within the royal jelly will change the ordinary worker larvae so that when born from the cell a queen emergence. This will be the new queen which will take over the hive but before this happens the two queens will fight for precedence. Or the old queen will take the swarm to a new location.

There are a number of great books out there that can help teach you beekeeping for a beginners but also teach you things you may not have even though about already.
