I'd like you to imagine that you're walking down a leafy country lane on a beautiful summer's day. Your wife or girl friend is on your arm, (Sorry ladies! Please substitute husband/boyfriend where necessary!) the birds are singing and you're feeling on top of the world. But there's one thing bothering you both. Honestly, d'you think that ice-cream seller is going to have a hard job selling you a couple of ice-creams? No, of course he isn't! You're both dying for one! You're already pre-sold on buying some. The need is there. That ice-cream seller just has to be there, in the right place at the right time! No selling involved, right?

Now you might say to yourself, "What on earth was the ice-cream van doing out there in the middle of no-where?" Well you see, that is the art of the best home based business entrepreneurs! They do their research and try the unexpected if it appears to have a good chance of success.

So what did that ice-cream seller do?

He first of all listed all the places in his neighbourhood where people might be expected to visit on a nice summer's day. (And since we don't get many these days, he has to get his calculations fairly accurate!) Then he would need to actually visit those places, perhaps taking his van with him to those he felt were particularly good sites to visit. He would continue to experiment, making slight adjustments to where he parked and what he had to sell, to make sure that he was ready to supply people with what they wanted, when and where they wanted it.

So you see, ‘Being in the right place at the right time' is not luck or guess work. You have to do your research, plan out your action and keep refining and fine tuning as you go along. Somebody once said, "The harder I work, the luckier I get"! And it's true. You may, just may, be lucky and stumble upon a winning home based business opportunity, but examples of people being lucky like that are very few and far between.

Take a look at the stories of any successful business man or woman and you'll see that their successes have come about with 5% luck or inspiration and 95% perspiration. In other words, they were all prepared to persevere and work hard. Plus you have to be ready to recognise a good home based business opportunity when it comes along.

How?

This is where all your research and investigation will pay dividends. You only really learn the pitfalls if you try things out and actually fail! But the one thing you MUST do when you have tried your best and still failed is to analyse every single thing you did so that you can learn from your mistakes. Make sure to write down all the actions you take as soon after you have done them as possible. This way you will have an accurate record of the steps you have taken so that you can analyse them at a later date.

By trying out different home based opportunities, you will learn what sort of things you are good at and those things that are best left to others.
