There is nothing more fulfilling then the feeling of having you hub ranked as the Hottest hub of the moment, being at on the front page of the hot hubs gives the feeling that the hard work you have put into your hub has really paid off. But is it really that hard to have your ranked first for hotness? We'll investigate further below.

The most genuine way of getting one of your hubs onto the front page is to pick an interesting topic, research the topic extensively, then publish an article about it sticking to the flagship standards to ensure that the hub is of exceptional quality. Once the article has been published lengthily promotion of the article via external websites must be undertaken to ensure that there is enough initial traffic to the page to get the page popular enough to be viewed by hubpages users. This is the genuine way of getting a hot hub in a nutshell and if the internet were a better place these type of hubs would be the only ones to make it to the front page, but this is not the case, there are many other tactics which people use to manipulate there hubs hotness such as, writing something which you know will be very controversial, making false statements, and using provocative photography. Before I elaborate on each technique I'll explain roughly how hotness is defined. In order for a hub to become hot there must be a sudden influx in the amount of traffic the hub receives, or an influx in the amount of comments written on the page, or an influx in the amount of thumbs up that the page receives. If the Hub elicits any of these three responses it will begin to move upwards in the hot pages and once it is within the first 5 pages it should be able to sustain itself if the content of the hub will continue to elicit these responses.

Controversial Hubs

A tried and tested favorite is to write something that you know will be controversial, and as such draw strong emotional responses from readers. A good recent example of this is the excellently written open letter to car drivers by Splork which has been controversial enough to draw over 60 comments and keep the article on the first page for over a week, the reason this article has worked so well is that it is written by someone within a minority group and derides the behavior of the majority group. The natural response to an attack is to defend yourself and that is why we see so many comments on this Hub. That explains why that hub made it to the front page, the reason it has stayed there so long is that it is well written, that will be a recurrent theme throughout this hub as it is easy enough to get to the front page, but to retain that spot you hub must have some relevant well written content. You should be able to see from the example above that getting you r hub to the front page would be as easy as writing a "pro whaling" hub or a hub which supports the logging of the rainforests. If anyone is going to write such a hub feel free to link to it in the comments section of this hub as I would like everyone to see the results.

False statements

These are great for drawing a lot of traffic from people who are just browsing and thus ending up on the front page very quickly, an example of this would be to post a hub called "Modify your car to travel through time" a perfect accompanying photo would be of Michael J Fox standing next to a Delorean For your content you could choose to either write about back to the future or you could write about how time travel would be great. Either way you would not actually be following up on what the statement promised but people would be drawn to your page just by reading the title.

Provocative photography

This one is a little bit more hit and miss but it relies on male interest in attractive females which is a constant. The idea behind this one is that you have a picture that will attract interest then a provocative title such as "ten greatest posteriors of all time - more photos inside" with a title like that you could get to the front page in no time flat but the likelihood is the is that it won't last there for long as interest in the hub will not continue.

So there you have it, a few quick and easy ways of getting you hub to the top if you are so inclined, please feel free to leave excessive comments to get this hub to the top also.
