Me holding my new baby

The question I have been asked continuously, how do you grow such long hair? I will attempt to try to answer to the best of my ability.

Do not cut hair! Your hair grows from the roots, many times cutting hair will pass up the amount of growth. I realize there are some cases of dead ends and some prefer to cut them off. I simply prefer to heavily treat dead ends until they are cured that way my hair grows healthy and has the natural flow instead straight across or even ends looking more natural. The Womens world magazine did a study and dicovered it was a myth that cutting hair promoted hair growth. I am not sure all the details on how thats a fact.

The fact I have not cut my hair at all is why it is so long. "I have people tell me I am trying to grow my hair as long as yours," but they are cutting every month and getting disappointed it's not growing. "It's not magic, it's just uncut!" Here are some great ways to enhance your hair growth.

Wash often with GOOD BRANDS ( NO CHEAP ) of shampoo and conditioner! You get what you pay for! Sometimes you might sleep in your conditioner treatment over night with a conditioning cap.

Extreme dry hair may require further treatment like intensive conditioning or hot oil treatment. You can ask your beauty supply store consultant for suggestions or try Aussies 3 minute miracle, St Ives intensive Mint Treatment, St Ives Hot Oil Treatments ect.

You can also try the old-fashioned mayonaise treatment. Just pack your hair with mayonnaise in a shower cap and leave it for at least 5 hours ( some add eggs for extra luster). I know it sounds gross, but it really works. You may add some lavender oil for a spa relaxing scent to cover bad smell. You may have to wash hair a few times to get all the mayo out, then condition normal. Your hair will gloss and glisten and look and feel very healthy.

Moisture rich hair is essential for growing hair! You need to drink plenty of water for internal and hair health!

Brush hair often removing tangles! Use a hair brush that does not rip out your hair! After your hair is mostly dry pull you hair in two sections and brush ALL the tangles out. If you are wearing your hair down and straight, brush your hair often during the day to prevent more tangles from occurring. Tangles thin and shorten hair!

Curling hair:We all know that hot curlers and perms are not healthy for hair growth. Perms stunt hair because of the chemicals. However perms are very pretty on long hair so if you get one be sure and have it done by a professional not a home perm. Use lots of conditioning and follow the proper care directions for detangling curls.

Hot curlers should be used minimum while growing hair and maintaining long hair. I love using hot curlers because the are convenient for quick pretty hairstyles, but I have to be careful because they dry and brittle my hair quick. Don't try to comb out hair sprayed curls, it will break your hair off! After you are finished with your curled and sprayed style, wash and fully condition. While conditioner is still in your hair start pulling apart the bunched curls then make a sticky bun while the conditioner is soaking in and you are shaving your legs or washing off, then rinse in warm water. Brush after mostly dry. A hair dryer can be used for a quick start, but I do not recommend for completely drying because it's burns and drys out hair. Natural air drying is another secret to long healthy hair. I like going out on the porch on warm days and letting the wind blow through it with a hairbrush in hand, it's relaxing too.

A way to curl long hair without using heating curlers. Curl the front strips of hair dampened with water or mousse. Put hair in two tight braids dampened with water or mousse and curl the ends. Leave in hair for several hours or over night. For extra curly hair add more braids and curlers. Your hair may resemble a perm, but will be very healthy and beautifully curly. I always get lots of complements with my hair like this. Style as desired with hair barrettes, combs, clips, bobby pins or just hanging natural. I recommend to spray with hairspray to hold all day. TRE Semme extra hold is nice.

Eating Healthy:People that starve themselves usually have thin and brittle hair. People that have once had long hair and it all broke off many times have their diet to blame. You can be thin without starving you and your hair from essential vitamins. Eating protein filled foods are beneficial since your hair is protein. Taking lots of vitamins can really boost hair-growth. Your health-food professionals can give you a list a great products for healthy hair growth. My little secret is prenatal vitamins, even when you are not pregnant. My hair grew 6 inches when I was pregnant with my first child and on prenatal vitamins.

Stress: Stress does cause some occasional hair thinning, hair loss or breakage. For our overall health indeed stress can wreck havoc. So it is wise to keep calm and try to chill out and take life at more of a stride with the help of God. Taking calming herbs helps too. Melatonin at night can relieve you stress from the daytime with a fit less night sleep that will make you more rested for the next day. Plenty of rest is a really big stress buster.

Massaging and Stimulating Scalp: Massaging and stimulating your scalp opens up hair growth follicle's that might be clogged where new growth can occur. I love having someone besides myself do it, it's very relaxing, Even slightly pulling your hair in bunches ( not hard at all ) can be stimulating.

Braid or twist hair up when you sleep. Long hair will tangle badly if it is hanging loose while you sleep. Just braid your hair or twist it on top of your head for safe sleeping for your hair. Braiding is actually proven to promote hair growth so while you are trying to grow your hair, its a great hairstyle to try.

I hope you have fun growing your long hair. Please check out my journey to long hair!
