How to know the meaning of dreams we have while sleeping at night?

Dreams have always been a mysterious aspect of life. Years of research have been performed but nobody really knows for sure what causes them. There are several different theories of where in the brain they originate, what causes them, and what they mean. The Psycholanalyst Sigmund Freud was one of the first to suggest that dreams come from the subconscious and express our desires, but this has been challenged by scientist such as J. Allan Hobson and Robert McCarley. They came up with a theory in 1976 called the "Activation-Synthesis Theory". They believed that the "Pons", a structure located on the brain stem, send structured yet chaotic signals to the cortex of the brain, which in turn interprets them into the sensory experiences we know as "Dreams". Another scientist, Mark Solms, believed that dreams came from the forebrain. And yet another scientist, Eugen Tarnow, believed that dreams are just an extension of long term memory, crediting the strange nature of dreams to alteration of memories from the past.

So, as you can see. Nobody is really sure at all why we have dreams or how they work. There are thought to be certain symbols in dreams that have particular meanings such as machinery, which may symbolize success after adversity. Lightning may symbolize good fortune. An apple can mean either love, fortune, guilt, or danger.

There are many sources on the internet where you can type in a dream you had and someone will analyze it and tell you what it may mean. But, if dreams DO mean anything. Only you can accurately interpret it. Dreams are a window into your own subconscious and normally relate to things that are going on with YOU. There are plenty of books out there that can help you to interpret your dreams. You could even find a Psychologist who specializes in Psychoanalysis and talk to them about them.

Dreams??? They used to say that people only dreamed in black and white, of course I knew it was bs right away because I always dream in color (once in black and white, but it was a dream about the fourties).

But certainly the only way to interpret a dream is to know what it means to yourself. Obviously we wake up with a feeling of attachment to them so they have some effect on us.

But I do believe there is a theory on how to interpret whether the dream was just a dream or if it has some importance to you, as most dreams seem to contradict their interpretations.

Dreams about sex, for instance, are what they are, dreams about sex. Dreams about flying have many different interpretations, but I would insist a person examine the dream from the feelings it invoked to understand if it were a good or bad omen of sorts.

but I am not a dream anylist or anything I just dream every day and usually remember them down to every detail.
