How to lubricate a Rubik's cube

Getting Started

First of all, you should solve the cube (this way you'll know how to reposition the pieces in the right order), but if you still don't know how to solve it, you could just take a bunch of pictures of each side. I strongly recommend the first one, though.

For this we'll be needing some sort of grease (Vasseline, petrolium jelly, etc) and nothing more. Except for a couple of napkins and such...

Getting to it

Allright, now that we have our solved cube and some vasseline, we're good to go. The first thing to do is rotate the upper side 45 degrees, so the corners 'stick out'.

After this, get your thumb under the middle piece of one of the sides (there's a picture) and pull it up untill it pops out; and don't worry, it wont break. Now just slide the corner pieces out and there you go, that's the first spot you gotta lub.

You should fill that entire place with grease, just to make sure there is enough to get inside the little 'articulations' of the cube (and also to avoid having to do it again 2 days later).

Now just put the corners back and then slide the center piece in, the same way you got it out.

That's it, now just repeat the same procedure on the other 3 sides.

Tips

- Some people take out everypiece of the cube and lube the entire core instead of doing it side by side. But i think the result is the same, so don't do that unless you're sure that you'll be able to put everything back.

- You should do this every week or so (depending on how much use it, of course), or everytime you notice that you have to struggle a little to make fast moves.

Well, that's all you need. Happy speedcubing!

hey, lord. actually it's the first time i hear this doesn't work. i guess the only thing that could have cause it, is the vasseline. are you sure it was in 'good codition' ? you may have to re-open your cube and check if it hasn't gone bad, that is, if it hasn't harden or something. and if it's greasy, as it's supposed to be, put some more in there, jus tin case...

hope you can work it out. let me know if anything changes.
