Introduction

Would you like a simple and easy breakfast replacement a couple times a week or every day that is inexpensive, taste delicious, helps you to lose weight, helps to cleanse your body, gives you energy and leaves you feeling full until your next meal? Several times a week I will make smoothies as a meal replacement. It only takes about 5 minutes to make and clean up is a breeze.

My Homemade Smoothie Recipe

First thing I do is head over to Costco or TraderJoes and pick up the largest bags of frozen strawberries, mixed berries, blueberries or other frozen fruits that are availabe. If you can get what you need fresh, this is even healthier and will give the best taste. Other ingredients I use are free range eggs or vanilla yogurt with high probiotic cultures, undiluted and unsweetened orange juice, filtered or natural spring water, orange fiber powder or vanilla green pea protein powder. Use your favorite protein powder or fiber powder or head to your local health store or grocery store to find these items.

Smoothie Measurements

You will have to experiment a little bit at first to get your desired taste. What I do is use enough ingredients to fill the blender nearly to the top (enough for 2 to 3 large smoothies). This consist of about a cup of fruit, 4 free range eggs, a cup of vanilla or banana yogurt, 1/3 can of undiluted, unsweetened orange juice( I use organic only) about 12 to 16 ounces of filtered or spring water, 4 to 6 scoops of orange fiber or 1 to 1 1/2 scoops of vanilla protein powder. Once you get good at making homemade smoothies you will never go out and pay the big bucks for smoothies again.

Conclusion

Investing in your health is never a waste of time or energy. Finding quick, easy, inexpensive and enjoyable ways to do it is the key. Every wise step you take to optimizing your health will lead to a long and healthy life. Healthy Smoothies several times a week are one step in the right direction.

This sounds great! Springfield, OR, has a local yogurt company, "Nancy's," which makes the best cultured yogurt and dairy products around. Check 'em out: http://www.nancysyogurt.com/

When I was trying to gain weight I used to drink shakes with breakfast made with; eggs, yogurt, OJ, and chocolate instant breakfast. I didn't gain weight, but they sure were good!

Great hub!

Yum! I'd forgotten all about smoothies--thanks for the reminder. I'm considering posting a series of weight-loss/exercise hubs to keep myself honest w/photos---that way if I fail I'll have to answer to my Hub friends. I'm not obese, but I'm heavier than I was when I was younger and some encroaching health issues have me thinking about getting back on it. This is very helpful. Thanks again!
