How to make brushing fun for your kids
57Here are some tips that can help your child settle into a tooth brushing routine while having more fun
1) Make teeth brushing a fun exercise by introducing fancy electrical toothbrushes to make the task of brushing teeth even simpler and enjoyable, as children find these gadgets fascinating.
2) Brush your teeth at the same time as your child, to further cement the routine firmly in his mind. Just letting him observe that you brush your teeth too can be helpful. It can also be a good idea to create a 'tooth brushing routine' that can include playing some music, getting things set up, etc. and stick to the same routine each day.
3) Make tooth brushing appear as a fun activity that they are missing out on. Mum and Dad can go into the bathroom eager to brush. They can laugh a lot and make a lot of noise. Soon your child will realise that he is missing out on something fun, and will want to join in.
4) To help him understand the importance of brushing, it can be sometimes fun and helpful to let him eat or drink something that will 'stain' his teeth temporarily, and then let him brush them clean.
5) Let him experiment with different flavours of toothpaste, keeping in mind that he only needs to use a very small, 'pea-sized' amount of toothpaste. Remember also that often peppermint and spearmint adult toothpaste is too strong for young, sensitive mouths and will cause him a burning sensation.
6) Children can get more excited to brush their teeth if they are allowed their favourite toothbrush in different colours, shapes and sizes, as it becomes like a toy for them.
