How to make falafel
66What is falafel
Falafel is a very common Middle Eastern food, found on the streets of Israel, Egypt, Turkey and many more countries.
It's a great dish based on humus and herbs and it's very simple to make. The trick with falafel is to know which ingredients you should add in.
This recipe is my fathers, it is amazingggggggggggggggg, and you can make it gluten free falafel or not, depends on your choice (it's great anyways).

The ingredients
- 1/2 kilo dried chickpeas (humus) or 17 oz. can of chickpeas or garbanzo beans, you can also add some ful into that (it's a Middle Eastern cuisine, but don't worry about it you don't have to use it).
- 1 onion chopped
- Coriander (I prefer fresh) chopped about two spoons.
- 2 hot red peppers (you can put only one if it's too much).
- 1 small bag of backing powder.
- 3 spoons of flour (as I said it can be gluten free flour or not).
- Salt about 1 tea spoon.
- Black pepper about 1 tea spoon.
- Cumin about 1 tea spoon.
How to prepare
Place the chickpeas and the ful in a bowl, with water for one night, Omit this step if using canned beans.
After you drain the chickpeas from water, combine the onion, red peppers, coriander, baking powder and flour. Mix it all together, and put in the food processor to get a nice thick paste.
Now combine the salt, pepper and cumin. Mix them into the paste well, and taste it. Now add some more spices until you are happy with the taste.
After the paste is ready, you can make small falafel balls, they should be the same size as ping pong balls. Now fry them in dip oil until they are brown and crispy.
Some tips
I love to eat the falafel in pita bread with humus, tahina, pickled cucumber, salad and something spicy. Another way to eat it is on a plate with humus, tahina and some salad or whatever you like.
You can put the falafel dough in the freezer (I prefer in a sandwich bag) and use it whenever you want. one important thing is, when you take the falafel dough out of the freezer and unfreeze it, put some water into it and mix it into the dough well it will make the dough better.
