jewelry making

I made bracelets and necklaces, earrings more than ten years ago and I am still making jewelry. I don't have a personal video to show how to make jewelry but the few I've provided should get you started.

Buy a kit from Michaels and Hancock Fabrics. Start with a smaller project: earrings. There are manys ear wires to choose from. Shepard Hooks are the best for pierced ears. Clip earrings are also good for those who don't or can't wear ear wires.

How to make a bracelet

Materials:

1. one silver barrel roll

2. use two inches of fishing line (you can use wire for beading. its a little stronger).

3. one needle for beading

4. 2 silver clasps (one on each end)

5. 2 silver jumps (8mm) and the same as the last one.

6. 2 pliers (round nose and flat nose)

7. use 16 clear 7mm facet beads and use three small clear glass beads or seedlings as a spacers.

Take the cut fishing line and push it through the beading needle and once through you tie boths ends. Place the tied ends through one clasp hole and bring it over next to the fishing line in the same clasp. take the flat nose plier and clamped the flaps on clasp. Firmly push down without breaking the line.

Use seven clear glass beads or seedlings to begin(this is to start the design you will make). next use one 7mm clear facet bead and place three small clear glass bead or seedlings next to it and repeat this pattern after using all of the 7mm facet clear beads. Place the last seven beads and close off bracelet just like you started in the beginning. Use the round nose pliers to part open one of the jump rings and put it through the hole of the clasp. After that take the barrel roll place it in between the jump ring close it (use the flat nose pliers for this one). Do the same thing with the end of the barrel roll and the other jump ring.

This how you make a bracelet. It's easier for me to do it in person than to explain to you in front of a computer. The how to video can help anyone to make jewelry.

I will post how to make a necklace and earrings(tear drop or loop) at later time. Loops are easier to make. look at the videos. some jewelry making kits I have bought are different colors:crystal and amber, emerald and crystal, crystal ice and sivler glass bead boxes. these mini kits are for making bracelets but I use them to make necklaces. Those kits I bought is called Bead Heaven.

I really loved this website. I have also seen Pretty Girl 56 jewelry and it is very unique and she makes a large variety of jewelry. Maybe she can take a picture of her jewelry and put in online. She has an abundance of patience, because a beginner like me gets very frustrated with I lose my beads after patiently putting them on the string or wire.

I recently uploaded two photos: pair of wire earrings and the necklace I made yesterday. I think I got the hang of uploading photos.

Please help! A few necklaces I've made with 8-lb. test fishing line (Tensite) have broken - not at the clasp but on one side or the other. What should I do to keep that from happening?

Simple but very useful for the beginner.

Helpful information. Will try this soon.

You can try other than fishing wire to string beads but be careful some are

heavier than others. I clasped one end using a climp and starting beading.

Don't squeeze to hard on the first end or it will break. I had to start a necklace over time again because of this. I decided to change material I used to make necklaces. But I still keep fish wire around just in case I run out of certain things.

What kind of beads should you use?

prettygirl 56  says:

I use glass beads, plastic beads. glass beads bring out anything you make better.

fytdgf,

I like that but I don't make perfumes. I don't know to make

perfumes. you have to get the chemistry right when making perfumes.

purchase these materials online

My favorite link to purchase beads, tools is:

www.firemountaingems.com

(they also have how to videos on making complex pieces of jewelry. order their catalogs. I have some these.)

another favorite website is:

www.orientaltrading.com

(they have unique beads and wire earrings, etc. they have no kits to help you start making your jewelry.)

jewelry making

a pair of wire earrings

making earrings using wired earrings

I made earrings today using wired earrings. they come in different colors, I chose brass ones.

How to make a pair of earrings

Materials:

1. two small jump rings

2. flat nose pliers

3. two wire earrings

4. two shepard hooks

open the jump ring and place the earring wire and shepard hook inside and close the jump using flat nose plier. Repeat same technique over again for the 2nd one.

How to make a necklace

Materials:

1. 10 inches of fishing line (will doubled)

2. two crimps(silver or gold)

3. one barrel roll(silver or gold)

4. flat nose and round nose pliers

5. fourteen clear tear drop glass beads(option)

6. seventy small clear glass beads

7. one beading needle

Take the fishing line place it through the beading needle and slide the needle to the middle of the fishing line and cut. Then tie the ends. Place the end through the hole and clasp the crimp flaps over each other and press to close using the flat nose pleirs.

Take 20 of the small clear glass beads and sting them. Place one tear drop glass bead at the end. take 6 small clear beads and sting them after the tear drop bead. Repeat 6 six more times and stop. Place 20 small clear beads in the middle. You will use same technique earlier but reverse the tear drop beads in the other dierction and string the beads using the same number of them. (Keep in mind the same numbers of beads must be used or the will look a little off. Always check the number of beads. I measure the necklace at the end so I close it properly.) Use 20 more small clear glass beads, again measure the number, place the needle with the finished end through the crimp and close the flaps on them. use needle and rethread a little and cut off excess fishing line. Open the other jump ring and place the crimp plus the end of the barrel roll through and close the ends of the jump ring.

Check your work after you are done to correct any mistakes. Before starting any necklace, bracelet or earrings see what length you want first so they will be too long or too short. Using these and other techniques you can make sets (necklace and earrings) with/without a bracelet.

I will give more information later about other earrings and necklaces I have made in the past. Wire earrings are make in different shapes too. I ordered the wired one made like circles. They're nice. Improve on your technique. I did.

use a storage container

Use one like this to store your beads. These are very handy when taking beads on the go.

beading needles

This is probably hard to see, a beading needle is on this paper. I use this with the fishing line to create my necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. I post a better picture later.
