Hey aaron,
The drop shipping process works like this:
1-the costumer buys the product from your e-store
2-you receive the money to your account (let's say paypal) after the costumer send the payment.
3-you transfer the order to the dropshipper with the payment (even with your paypal account)
4-the dropshipper sends the product to the costumer

hmmm... how about the address used in delivering the items is it your address or the address of worldwide brands
I think you should also think about affiliates, they also deserve the attention, and VirtueMart with Joomla has some nice components for this like Virtue Affiliate, Jaffilia or VM Afiliate.

The concept is good but the are technical issues regarding Virtuemart ability to drop ship your item.. Just like Neo said, the function to have multiple delivery addresses to reflect your supplier location(for calculation of shipping cost) is still not yet developed. Currently, Virtuemart function only allowed you to act as a seller, not drop shipper.
Shipping cost should be calculated if you need control over how much you will profit or else hell break loose cause you'll need to dig your own wallet to pay for shipping.
For affiliate system, you can integrate IdevAffiliate into Virtuemart as an affiliate tracking system.. However, IdevAffiliate integration directly into JOOMLA is still not available.
Depending on how you develop your site, this will result in the below general condition:
1.Joomla Membership(based on this my project at http://www.vniaga.com) - affiliates will need to have 2 accounts. One for JOOMLA and Virtuemart and the other one is for your IdevAffiliate.
I would like make small amendment regarding the previous post:
Idevaffiliate does have plugin to connect both Virtuemart and Idevaffiliate database. But as expected, the cost of commercial software is quite high.

One thing you did not mention was that the manufactures need to receive the money from your e-store before they will ship. How is that handled by Virtuemart? I think you would need to prepay each manufacture. This represents a significant upfront cost.
