How to make saving for retirement easy

I don't claim to be any kind of expert since I didn't even think of saving for retirement until I started having kids of my own a few years ago; however, my dad, who has a lot of financial savvy, encouraged me to begin investing my money after I got married. I had a couple of uncles who told me to do this years ago when I was in college but I was more interested in partying at the time. I have limited knowledge regarding the different ways to invest and personally, although it's important, I really could care less because it doesn't interest me. I've also heard that while investing in your 401K is great, it's not always guaranteed. I chose to take the advice of knowledgeable people I trusted (my dad, uncles, and brother) and spoke with my brother who was a new financial advisor with Principal at the time. He asked me all the pertinent questions including what amount of money I would need to live off of once I retired and that was that (a little more detailed of course but you get the point). My money is automatically taken out monthly so it's basically like a savings account for the future since I know it's there but don't really see it. Do your research and talk to people who've been around, know whats out there, and who most of all are trustworthy. Let me know if I can be of any help. Good luck!
