Silk Bouquets

My wedding bouquets
My wedding bouquets

Silk Bouquet

I got married last year and both my fiance and I were strapped for cash, so I have to channel my inner creativity and do a lot of my wedding decorations on my own.  Things turned out better than I could have ever imagined.  My first project was to do my own as well as my bridemaids bouquets.  The photo above is really hard to see but those are the bouquets I made.  My wedding colors were green and brown and the following are the steps I took to make these fabulous bouquets.

1.  I began my journey at Hobby Lobby, I was in there at least once a week picking up various supplies.  In addition, they always have their silk flowers on sale and some are on clearance for like $.50 a stem.

2.  I searched in Hobby Lobby for flowers that had the colors of my wedding but also a hint onf another color.  I would advise that you do the same.  I found about 8 stems of a flower that was red, green with brown stems.  The number of stems you purchase will depend of the size of the bouquet in which you desire.

3.  Purchase a roll of ribbon to wrap all of the flower stems in ( my color was brown)

4.  Purchase bouquet pins (you can get a package of about 50 to 100 for a reasonable price at Hobby Lobby

5.  To accent your bouquet look for some bouquet jewels.  I found some clear jewels again at Hobby Lobby

6.  Make sure that you have some really good cutting shears, so that you are able to cut the stems of the flowers (these tend to be really thick and are hard to cut, regular scissors won't do)

7. Cut the stems of your flowers and keep them long enough so that if you're holding the bouquet, you can hold it with both hands (one hand on top of the other)

8. Arrange all of your stems in the shape you like along with the bouquet jewels (mines were round).  Look at yourself holding the bouquet in the mirror this will give you an idea of what you will look like walking down the aisle with your bouquet.  This will also let you know if you need to make your bouquet larger or smaller or to do some rearranging.

9. Once you have you're flowers just the way you want them, now it's time to wrap them together.  Take your ribbon and tape one end to the stems of your bouquet.  Then wrap the ribbon around to first cover the tape and then continue to wrap diagonally up towards the top of the bouquet

10.  Once the stems are all tightly wrapped together, cut the end of the ribbon off.  Take one of your bouquet pins and stick it into the stem and ribbon to hold in place.

11.  Next you will evenly space the pins down the length of the stem.  Be careful not to have any pins sticking out of the ribbon, they hurt :)

12.  Now your bouquet is ready for viewing, be sure to make sure your bouquet looks presentable from every angle and you are done.
