How to maximize usage of the new Poll capsule on HubPages
55Well here comes a very useful “poll capsule” for hubpages lovers.
Let’s explore some of the creative ways to employ this poll capsule to our hubs.
User Interaction
The major advantage of using the poll capsule for our Hubs is to improve “User Interaction”.
Without poll capsule the reading habit of a typical reader is to have a quick/rough glance and leave the hub. Or if the reader has some idea about the topic he will read it and makes his contribution in the form of comments or if he really likes it then a Thumbs up click.
How poll capsule will change the scenario
Now, we can create a poll capsule any where in our hub. So if we have 2 to 3 (on an average) poll capsules in our hub, then it will make the hub more interactive to the user. Like he reads or takes the hub more seriously to answer the polls in the hub.
Many of the hubbers feel that a poll capsule is best used at the end of hub for taking feed back from the reader. Well that’s a really good idea but I will never dare to do so.(why?)
AT the beginning of the hub
Using a poll capsule in the first paragraph of our hub is a very good practice. Wondering how to use a poll capsule at the begging of a hub, Well then lets have an example.
Suppose I want to write a hub on “computer literacy in india” then I can include a poll at the very beginning of the hub like:
“How much percentage of people in India do you think are computer literates?”
With the options like
1) More than 70%
2) 50% to 70%
3) 30% to 50%
4) Less than 30%
As I know most of the readers click on 1st or 2nd option. I can now start the hub more effectively by making them know the fact that its 7-8% (which is less than 10%) which is unexpected by the reader. And the reader wants to know why it is so and will be naturally more interested to find of the facts and reasons for that figure.
(Example included for example sake only, no controversies please…)
One more uncommon advantage of including a poll capsule in the first paragraph of your hub is that it will sometimes improve your page’s CTR. (if u got some luck!!!)(How?)
As you know hubpages displays Adsense ads mostly at the beginning of the hub and at the end of first paragraph. And the fact is that an average reader who is adsense ads conscious will never look at the ads most of the times. Then when the reader is not even reading your ads then how can you expect Clicks!!! So if you include a poll capsule at the beginning of the hub then the user will try to answer it meanwhile if you got luck he may have a glance at your ads (Just a hope!)
In the middle of the Hub
Always include a poll of feedback in the middle of your every hub. This will always give better results. Like “How are you enjoying the Hub?” with options like great, good reading, Average etc, because only people interested in your hub have come so far (to the middle).
At the end of Hub
Never, I repeat never include a poll of feedback at the end of your hub. Because that is why the ‘rate it’ bar is for. Then you will lose thumbs up click when a ‘new to hubpage’ reader likes your hub because he may leave the page thinking that he has already voted / rated the hub?
Then how can I use a poll capsule at the end of the hub?
Well, we can use to check how influential our hub is by placing a poll capsule at the end of the Hub. Like, if you are writing a hub to change the way people think. Suppose consider the previous example of “computer literacy in india”. In the hub I can justify why it is below 10% by discussing the facts like Local Language barrier, aged people ratio etc. and at the end I can ask for a poll like “Do you still think the figure is above 50%?” to check how influential your hub is.
And also we can use the poll capsule at the end more wisely to TEMPT the user to make a comment. How?
Simply don’t include the option every one expects there to poll. If the option the reader expects to poll on is not included in your options list of poll capsule then he is tempted to include his option as his view in the comment capsule as a comment contributing to your hub.
I’ll update this hub whenever I think of new uses.

Great breakdown of the ways poll capsules can be used in Hubs :) I like to stick mine in the beginning, as a sort of introduction.
