One of the news introduced by the iPhone 3G was the support for the Microsoft program files as Word (. Doc and. Docx), Excel (. Xls and. Xlsx) and PowerPoint (. Ppt and. Pptx). It also provides for opening files of text (. Txt) and contact information (. Vcf).

Through the application of e-mail embedded in the smartphone (and the iPod touch), you can view the contents of these documents, in addition to the main image formats (. Gif,. Jpg and. Tiff) and iWork package, the Apple. To open a file, simply click on the attachment, which will be first downloaded to the phone.

Moreover, there are third-party applications, available in the virtual store App Store, allowing transfer computer files to any of the two devices. Several options, including the Air Sharing (U.S. $ 6.99), FileMagnet (U.S. $ 4.99), MobileStudio (U.S. $ 1.99) and DataCase (U.S. $ 6.99). Other programs, such as MobileFiles and Files lite (in photo) are free.

They act as a file manager, listing those contents that are stored on the mobile device.

For these programs, you must access the App Store from the phone or iPod touch and do the download. Another alternative is to use iTunes (from version 8) on the computer.

Through these programs or using the email function of the iPhone, you can not, however, edit the content. The function is not very common and is present in a few smartphones on the market, most of them aimed at the corporate market. The device from Apple, at least for now, is not one of them.
