Tips on Preventing nappy Rsh
Most children suffer from nappy or diaper rash as a baby, or young toddler, although in most cases easy treatment is available.
Causes
Some babies are more susceptible than others are, especially at teething time. A babies' skin is very sensitive and could be allergic to washing powders and various ointments, or types of disposable diapers. In most cases, it starts from the child left too long in wet diapers. Plastic pants worn over the diapers often add to this especially in summer from perspiration. I believe the nylon pilchers are more serviceable and less irritating.
Often when a toddler is teething you can smell the ammonia, offer him/her extra drinks of water to help prevent dehydration. Some could suffer from dermatitis or eczema.
Prevention is better than the cure
First of all a clean and dry bottom is of the utmost necessity. Take special care to wash or wipe in all the crevasses of the skin. A diaper needs changing at least every two hours. When a diaper becomes soiled, it is important to give the bottom a good thorough clean. Leave the diaper off for as long as possible, to allow the skin to dry completely.
You could lay the baby on a baby blanket with a waterproof underneath to prevent carpet stains. It would be best to lay a boy on his tummy to prevent waterspouts of urine around the room, or lay a nappy across him. Never leave a baby uncovered unless rooms heated in the winter.
Always apply a protective diaper cream at every change. I tried all sorts of creams and baby powder with my son, although personally, the best thing I found and the cheapest was to simply use Vaseline. I never applied it unless I was sure his skin was completely dry. Vaseline acts as a natural water barrier; therefore, it prevents the urine from coming in contact with the skin in those sensitive areas.
Baby wipes are good for cleaning the tiny tot's bottoms, although beware that they are made from different materials. Babies or toddlers could be allergic to some brands. A little sunshine could help occasionally. If you intend doing this, never, ever use any type of oil on the baby. Oils used to cook with, and that's not what you want to happen to your baby.
With the advent of so many brands and types of disposable nappies, it is more convenient to change baby more often. Some are better designed to keep baby dryer as well.
Most babies will suffer from a nappy rash at some time, no matter how careful you are. A little redness is quite common but if it persists and gets worse contact your local doctor or health care nurse. It may require the use of an antibiotic medication.
