With the number of new websites online today, how do you promote your website effectively? What was the poing on you spending so much time building your site if no one ever sees it.

There are a huge amount of things you can do, but ultimately you will need to do your research and ensure you get to your target market. For example there is no point in getting your site for expensive anti wrinkle cream infront of a group of poverty stricken 18 year old students.

1. Advertising - The prediction for 2008 is that internet advertising revenue will be worth more that television, radio and paper advertising alone. That being said you need to ensure that your ad is being shown on a site that will get to your target market and also your budget. A good advertising company is Adengage (www.adengage.com). They have advertising to suit many budgets, and they advertise on a huge variety of sites so your demographic is sure to be featured.

2. Links exchanges - This is where a link to your site appears on many other sites. You can pay for this, which in turn means that you don't have to put others links on your site. However if you take a free option you will need to reciprocate the favour by add links to your site.

3. Safelists - This is e-mail advertising. You send messages to members of the safelist. In turn you agree to receive their messages. You can usually send you message to 1000's at a time. Depending on what you are promoting will determine how successful you are. Safelists are usually used for affiliate marketingurl and blog promotion. The are not necessarily effective for getting quality visitors to your site, but you will get hits to your site.

4. Traffice Exchanges - A traffic exchange is exactly as it describes its self. You visit some ones site and they visit yours. However if you have google adsense on your site, you CANNOT use traffic exchanges. They are considered "illegal impressions" and google can reserve the right to close your adsense account. However they are very effective for promoting your blog or for promoting your affiliate url

5. Ensure your web address is cached by all the big search engines. This is when you can type into the search engine your full web address and it will give you the option of going to your site.

6. Join social networks. They are a great way advertise your site. If you join clubs that reflect your sites content you can promote your site WITHOUT spamming.

7. When e-mailing anyone use put a clickable link as part of your signature. Apply this to all your e-mails whether personal or professional.

8. Use Intel engines. Write articles about what your site is promoting and include your web address.

These are just some simple and easy tips. However I have an anti tip (for want of a better word). No matter what your read, or how they promote themselves, do not buy traffic or use a traffic/referral blaster. They may get hits to your site, but you are not necessarily going to get any visitor.
