Adding Adsense to a blog

Article Written by: T. Hillukka

Do you own a blog? Then you can make money from it. How?

Have you ever wondered how websites make money to pay their writers? Take a look at all the advertisements on those websites. They are not just there for looks.

The website owners make money by advertising on their websites for various companies. Now you can, too. If you already own a web log (blog), all you need to do is set up a Google AdSense account. Here is how to do that:

Another way to sign up for Adsense

Another way to set up an AdSense account is to go directly through your blog account. Log into your account and find the link to AdSense - you will likely find it on the dashboard. Click on the link. Follow the instructions for setting up your AdSense account.

If the ads do not automatically appear on your blog, you will need to add them through the editing page. There may be a link called 'Monetize'. If you cannot find it, click around until you find a way to enable AdSense.

Adsense fills ads based on your content

The ads will be customized to fit your content type. For example, if your blog is about gardening, then gardening ads will appear on your site. You will earn money when viewers click on the ads, so ad-content relevancy is important.

Besides advertising, there are other ways to make money with an AdSense account. You can add Google search engines and other forms of revenue to your blog, as well.

Blogging is not just a hobby - for some people, it is a source of income. If you already own a blog, why not use it to make a little extra money?

Installing the adsense code on your blog

The answer will be different depending on what Blog platform you are using, but if you are using Wordpress, you will want to take the HTML code that Adsense provides after setting up your first ad and drop it into one of the text widgets. This is the easiest way to install it.

If you want to install it within your posts, you can edit the template files and drop the code where you would like this. If you aren't sure what you are doing, I would avoid this as you can really mess things up if you do it wrong.

Once you have your ad code installed I recommend reading How to make money blogging - it is a very thorough article that has a bunch of great tips to increase Adsense revenues.
