Is your computer running very slow?

Does it take a long time to think before it does something?

It is time to clean up your computer. Whatever the age of your computer, you need to do certain things to make it efficient. There are plenty of softwares available at your disposal, but you have to choose the right one to do the job. How do you find the right one? Install it and observe if your PC has slowed down. If it has slowed down, then you need to remove it.

I am not saying anything about your processor speed or RAM because, I assume you will have a decent computer. And there are the spywares and malwares that gets installed on your computer with or without your permission that suck your computer's health and degrade it into a junk.

If your system is always connected to Internet, then you need to make sure you have got a good Internet Security suite that protects your computer and secure your data from the prying eyes of spammers. OK, let us get down to business without wasting any more time.

5 things that you MUST do to protect your Computer and Data

Here are the things that you need to do make sure your computer is up to it's capable speed.

1. Clean up your Dekstop: Remove the cluttered files that occupy the desktop. Create a folder called "Desktop" and move all those items now. This will speed up your processing power and your computer wallpaper will look attractive. You can have shortcuts in a folder called "Shortcuts", they would still work.

2. Keep your C:\ drive only for installing programs and softwares: If you do not have two drives (your hard drive partitioned) , please bribe a techie friend (geek) to do the partition. Partition your hard drive into two drives of equal size. Use C:/drive to install softwares and store all your files on the other drive. By this way, you would not lose any data if the system crashes unfortunately. More importantly, your system will run faster as it will have more virtual memory. If you love to store your files in "My Documents" folder, then you can migrate the "My Documents" folder to your another drive. Right-Click on the "My Documents" folder to move the location to a specific drive.

3. Only some Anti-virus programs are good: Some of the popular anti-virus programs actually slow down your computer. Instead, use the free alternatives available. I would highly recommend AVG Free Anti-virus which is free for personal use.

4. Remove unwanted softwares: Devote one day a month to go through your list of installed softwares (Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs) and remove unwanted softwares that you installed to try them one day. If a software is not helping you now, it won't help you in future. Check out How to Clean up Unwanted Programs from your Computer hub to do a spring cleanup on your PC.

5. Provide Internet Security: As we all know, the Internet is not only the place of good things, but also a home for bad things. There are Viruses, Trojans, Dialers, Worms and other spwares and malwares that sit on your computer and transmit personal data to some spammer. This is the most dangerous kind of issue that you need to address if your computer behaves abnormal. Click here to download the Complete Internet Security Pack for free. It is suitable for computers and laptops that run Windows ME, 2000, XP and Vista.

I wish you all the best in cleaning up your computer. Good luck.
